Step 1- Author Flyer……………..50 points
Design and create a brochure or flyer about the author of your short story. This
can be computer-generated or hand-made using unlined paper, color, and ink. Include at
least 3 pictures and several paragraphs or lists that present the
author’s biography, writing career, and favorite themes, and possibly
a bit about the short story.

Step 2- Vocabulary……………..30 points
Compile a list of 10-15 words that may be considered challenging or pertinent to
the story. Provide a short definition and a meaningful complex sentence for each word.
Example- “Harrison Bergeron”
VigilanceDefinition: noun, the quality or state of being vigilant, or watchful
Complex Sentence: Because of the vigilance of the Handicapper General, George
and Hazel felt average and safe from the “evil” of competition.
Step 3- Literary Analysis……………..60 points
Write 5 analysis paragraphs, one for each of the five elements of
fiction- setting, plot, character, theme, and style using TREEES format
and quotes from the story.
Step 4- Reading Questions…………………..40 points
Draft a set of 12 questions that relate to the short story. Using the hierarchy
and order of Bloom’s Taxonomy, include 2 questions for each level:

Step 5- Writing Snapshot……………………50 points
This writing requirement is a piece of your own writing of any
genre that relates to the short story in some way. You may write
for any audience with any purpose in any style you choose-
500 word minimum!
You may write this assignment as one complete work or as only part of a whole story,
article, script, or poem. You may also write 500 words divided into several shorter
pieces of writing that add up to equal 500 words.
Step 6- Class Activity………………………50 points
Create an engaging activity to do with the class. This activity should call for your
classmates to interpret or express some aspect of the short story like its setting, plot,
characters, theme, author’s writing style, real-world comparisons and applications,
connections to other pieces of literature and movies, etc. Ideas for class activities
