Steps to write a number in Scientific Notation

Move the decimal point to get a decimal greater than 1 but less than 10

Drop the zeros
§
Count the number of places you moved the decimal point. Use this number as an exponent of 10

A positive exponent indicates a number greater than 1
•
A negative exponent indicates a number less than 1
