Product: Create an order of operations puzzle
Materials: notebook paper, pencil, blank white paper, colored pencils or markers
Read all directions before starting.
Review the Order of Operations
1. Think about the order of operations.
2. Write down the correct order of operations in the space below or on a separate sheet of paper.
3. Check the order of operations with a classmate to make sure you agree. If you disagree, go back to the
WebQuest to make sure you have the correct order of operations.
Prepare to Create a Math Puzzle
4. View the math puzzle example to see what you will be creating.
5. On a piece of notebook paper, write four or more math problems that require at least 3 steps to solve.
6. Solve the problems; include your work showing all the steps. This is your math puzzle answer sheet.
(You will turn this in.)
7. Ask a classmate to check your work for accuracy. . If you disagree, work together to find the correct
solution.
Create a Math Puzzle
8. Decide if you will create your math puzzle on the computer or draw it by hand.

9. Open a program like Power Point.
10. Type each problem with the solution (cover
most of a single slide).
11. Print the slide with the problems.
12. Cut the puzzle into pieces. You can use
straight lines, curvy lines, or lines like a
puzzle.

9. Get a piece of blank white paper and markers or
colored pencils.

of the paper.

Note: The problems and solutions should be written in the correct order on the puzzle (like the example).
13. Review the evaluation rubric to review how your work will be evaluated.

14. Trade math puzzles with a classmate.
15. Complete the math puzzle.
16. Work out the problems to make sure you agree with the solutions.
17. Return the math puzzle to the classmate.

18. Paper clip your math puzzle pieces together.
19. Turn in your math puzzle pieces and your math puzzle answer sheet (see #6 above).
