Directions: When outlining the topic headings can be taken directly from the text such as in the case of the red
section heading (Historical Overview).
Roman Numerals (I, II, XI) to identify what the subtopic is for each section or chapters being outlined.
Example: I. Colonial Heritage
Alphabet letters (A, B, C) identify a main point in the section. Ex: Spain, France & England founded USA
Numeric symbols (1, 2, 3) identify supporting evidence. Ex: England founded Massachusetts
HISTORICAL OVERVIEW:
I. Colonial Heritage (First subtopic)
A. Spain, France and England founded the original colonies (First Point)
1. Spain founded Florida, (supporting evidence)
2. England founded Massachusetts (supporting evidence)
