This document was compiled from examples of Output Reduction Campaign I. Hopefully these examples will be
helpful to other schools/departments in creating their Goals, Strategies and Benchmarks in their Go Green Plans
for 2010-2011.

Establish Green Team
Strategies:
Recruit key personnel who are stakeholders from all levels of faculty

Go Green Team will meet monthly to set goals and revise strategies for each quarter depending on data

Benchmark: 100% of staff, students and parents will be aware and involved in our site Go Green
Program
Goal:
Establish a PLC – “Go Green” Professional Learning Community at your site
Course Type # 39104610 (18hrs. learning/6 hrs. implementing = 24 Inservice Credits)
Strategies:
Provide Professional Development on “Go Green” Initiative
Speak to staff interested in joining the “Going Green” PLC
Set training dates and activities
Benchmark: 100% of staff is aware of site Go Green Program and implements initiatives
REDUCE
Goal:
Reduce the amount of documents being sent home
Strategies:
Survey parents to see if they have access to Internet or email accounts
Encourage parents to use the website for information
Distribute culinary menus and school announcements on the web and electronically (Email and Parent
Link)
Set-up kiosk for parents in Front Office/Media Center
Teachers will monitor requests for hard copy notices sent home
Post SAC meeting dates and agendas on the web
Benchmarks:
100% of parents will be aware of school website information
Compare number of flyers sent the previous year
Monitor hits on web page
Goal:
Train staff to use multifunction copiers according to site plan
Strategies:
Arrange for Technicians to network copiers
Set up the Multifunctional Copiers for staff use
Encourage teachers to use copiers for large jobs
Create staff Mailboxes on copiers
Copier Drivers installed on 100% Teacher Laptops
Conduct training classes for teachers on functionality of Multifunction Devices
Benchmarks:
100% Teachers using MFD Copiers for Mini-Bat bubble sheets and classroom sets

Goal:
Reduce paper consumption 25%
Strategies:
All notices and announcements are scanned or created electronically and sent via CAB
Most used/requested documents are posted on our school website
Administration uses Cab Workspace to distribute agendas and handouts
Encourage staff to reduce paper output
Train teachers to scan to email
Team Leaders will train faculty to use LCD projectors and document cameras for classroom instruction
Train our staff to "print preview" before printing, in case documents can be resized to one page
Set defaults to duplex print/copy for documents 1+ pages
Encourage staff to use the backside of previously printed material
Benchmarks:
100% of documents will be distributed to staff electronically via Cab or School Website
75% of our staff will use scan-to-email to reduce paper output
Monitor logs for duplexing
Goal:
Reduce cost of Toner and Ink Cartridges
Strategies:
Utilize MarkVision to monitor toner supplies and capacity
Change the default toner settings on all of our printers to 5
Decrease the color settings on all of our laser color printers
Purchase Remanufactured High Yield Toner Cartridges
Benchmarks:
Budget Data Sheet will compare costs pre and post
MarkVision will provide data for reports
Goal:
Decrease the use of individual classroom printers by 15%
Strategies:
Using Mark Vision, identify printers that generate the most use and consolidate use to a central location
Use Mark Vision to check printer use and toner supplies
Do a baseline report then check usage each month
Arrange for Technicians to network copiers
Encourage teachers to use copiers for large jobs
Create staff Mailboxes on copiers
Install Copier Drivers on 100% of Teacher Laptops
Train teachers to scan-to-email worksheets and project in classroom
Train our staff to "save as pdf" instead of printing to archive documents on their computers
Analyze MarkVision Data quarterly and end of year
Benchmark:
Copier Drivers installed on 100% Teacher Laptops
Publish a report to share with staff at end of year to show reduction percentages
Goal:
Reduce the use of the fax machine by 50% or more
Strategies:
Monitor current fax logs to establish benchmark (paper/ink)
Request ETS create a Fax Conference for site
Configure MFP to forward incoming faxes to Fax Conference
Staff will monitor Fax Conference and electronically forward faxes to appropriate individual(s)
Analyze Data quarterly and end of year
Benchmark:
Publish a report to share with staff at end of year to show reduction percentages
and cost savings

Goal:
Implement ways to reduce per page costs (ink and paper) for printing.
Strategies:
Set output devices defaults to duplex copy/printing
Only purchase high-yield Remanufactured Toner Cartridges
Students will print to the Media Center printer for 75% of their printing needs rather than using the
classroom printer
Install upgraded software on Media Center “for-pay” printer to allow students to send their documents to
the Media Center for printing from the classrooms
Benchmark:
Budget Data Sheet savings
RECYCLE
Goal:
Recycle Toner Cartridges
Strategies:
Box cartridges and return to Lexmark
Register for Toshiba’s Close the Loop Recycling Program for other cartridges
Can be a drop-off for community’s cartridge recycling
Benchmark:
100% of Cartridges will be recycled back to Lexmark and Toshiba
Goal:
Encourage recycling efforts at home or within the community
Strategies:
Encourage teachers and students to be involved
Share recycling information during morning announcements, presentations at SAC Meetings, Student
Assemblies and other activities
Share website through CAB
Enter recycling contests on school calendars
Earth Day Celebration
Share activities, websites, lesson plans regarding recycling
All students and staff will experience “Green Days”, environmental field days
Benchmark:
100% of our students will participate in an Earth Day activity and recycling
lessons
Goal:
Engage community and faculty in Go Green Program for site
Strategies:
Develop a Go Green website that will be linked to our school's website, with tips and video clips of our
"Recycling Rangers" showing how to reduce, recycle and reuse
Engage PTO in recycling/fund raising program to collect juice boxes and Frito-Lay wrappers for recycling
for cash
Broward Waste and Recycling Services will conduct training for 100% of staff
Benchmark: Surveys show only 30% of homes recycle. Look for an increase in that %
Goal:
Establish a school-wide Recycling Program
Strategies:
Identify select students to be "Recycling Rangers". They will be responsible for teaching students and staff
about recycling within the school.
Aftercare students will collect recycling materials (paper, cardboard, cans, and bottles) each day from
classrooms, Teacher's lounge, office, and workroom
Conduct an internal classroom audit of recycling bins at the school site
Students will customize a recycling inventory sheet to accurately determine the classrooms actively
recycling materials
Benchmark:
Current inventory is at 72% with implementation of initiative expectations will exceed above 90%

Goal:
Increase environmental awareness in student population
Strategies:
Implement after school environmental clubs, Power Rangers, Tree Huggers, etc.
TV Production students, in collaboration with other classes, will create productions relating to
Environmental Stewardship and the Go Green Program
Establish an annual recognition program for outstanding environmental students and educators
Create a Go-Green Intercouncil Club Board. (Students, through the clubs and classes, have become
determined to reduce their own carbon footprints.)
Conduct an additional staff/student/parents/community survey to obtain stakeholder feedback and
suggestions for improvement to the program.
Benchmarks:
50% of the students will participate in one or more outreach efforts to reduce their carbon
footprints
70% of the school community will complete the survey

Goal:
Consolidate output devices based on site needs assessment
Strategies:
Conduct site needs assessment to determine current footprint and location
Utilize MarkVision to determine volume on shared devices and place appropriately
Adopt centralized print strategy in shared areas (administration/planning)
Relocate individual administrative devices into classrooms as needed
Reduce inventory of outdated devices and surplus older / non-working computers
Redirect to Digital Divide or surplus to B-Stock so parts can be used
Benchmark:
Reduction in output device inventory
Goal:
Redirect teachers to print to production copiers instead of classroom printers
Strategies:
