**** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE **** Boston Festival of Indie Games Announces BostonFIG Game Jam Adobe, Corona Labs, Skillz and Newgrounds Join Forces to Support Jam August 21, 2013 ---Cambridge, MA— The Boston Festival of Indie Games today announced open registration for the second annual BostonFIG Game Jam, taking place at the festival on September 14th on the MIT campus in Cambridge. Cosponsors Adobe, Corona Labs, Skillz and Newgrounds are supporting this year’s game jam. The BostonFIG Game Jam starts at 9 am and ends at 7 pm. Teams can register online for free at http://bostonfig.com/game-jam/. The BostonFIG Game Jam is a chance for amateur and professional game developers alike to come together and make original games from start to finish in just a handful of hours during the festival. Participants will pitch ideas, form small teams and collaborate to produce their games from concept to a final, playable game. Team will then present their resulting games to festival-goers during the BostonFIG closing ceremonies. Participants are required to bring their own computers and tools for designing and building games. The game jam directors will provide the teams with a theme or abstract game concept, then ideas will be brainstormed during the early part of the jam. Games are then showcased in the BostonFIG main theater for all fest attendees to check out! Darren Torpey, fest game jam co-director and organizer of Boston Game Jams, offers, “The BostonFIG game jam is a great way to try out new skills and techniques for making games, stretch your creative muscles, and feel a sense of accomplishment from having completed a game you can show and play. We encourage game developers to try it out.” Greg Kinneman, fest game jam co-director and gameplay programmer, adds “Last year’s jam was a huge success. Nearly twenty-five participants made up six teams, with each of the six teams creating a playable game. This year, we expect more than triple the participation, with up to twenty teams and more than seventy game developers.” The 2nd annual Boston Festival of Indie Games will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Stratton Student Center and the Johnson Athletic Center on the MIT campus. A celebration of independent game development in a variety of media and genres, Boston Festival of Indie Games is free and open to the public. Festival attendees play video games, tabletop games and live action roleplaying (LARP) games in a casual, inclusive environment, plus attend film screenings and keynote talks.
