Page 2 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 GRASS presents its new corporate design at the interzum Cologne, May 2009 – in time for the kick-off of the interzum, the fittings manufacturer is repositioning its brand and presenting its new corporate design to the trade audience. Focussing on the umbrella brand, GRASS plans to position itself within the exclusive brand segment. Elegant, modern and self-confident - these are the attributes of the new image. With this development, the movement specialists are setting the stage for the future. In addition to the green, large and striking areas of colour and unusual images, it is, above all, the holistic approach that will positively change perception of the GRASS brand. In addition to the focus on high customer satisfaction and the ongoing commitment to developing innovative product solutions, the movement specialists plan to give particularly the GRASS brand a unique image over the next few years. “Today, GRASS means trailblazing product developments, technical precision and progressive thinking. And this status demands continuity. GRASS fittings systems represent a pledge that needs to be fulfilled on a daily basis”, is the tenet of an internal strategy paper. In future, GRASS will be positioned as a modern, upwardlymobile brand with tradition. And the fact that the new brand concept is being presented at the interzum has very good reasons. The furniture industry and interiors supplier trade fair has long been the leading international trade fair for GRASS. “With 50,000 visitors from more than 130 countries, the trade Page 3 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 fair reflects all those markets that are important to us”, reasons Frank Nessler, Marketing/Sales CEO, commenting on the significance of the four trade fair days. As a complete provider of innovative fittings systems, GRASS is using the interzum platform to create a furore with fascinating movement systems, future-oriented product solutions and a spectacular presentation of the new corporate design. The new corporate design has had a decisive impact on the considerably modernised appearance of the GRASS brand. Large, green surfaces in conjunction with light, elegant images create a remarkably striking impression, which provides an expression of modern purism. Colour gradients, discrete structures and delicate transparencies bring the generous surface to life. And the use of the logo is always in white against a green background. The individual design elements are harmonious and fuse to create a coherent overall look comprising colour, image and typography. GRASS_CorporateDesign Page 5 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 Dynapro – the new sub-surface guides system Innovative movement solutions from GRASS come with a rich tradition. Following the merger of Mepla-Alfit and GRASS and the takeover of Hetal, the movement specialists are successfully launching their very first product innovation under the new GRASS brand. With the Dynapro, the fittings manufacturer is now bringing a completely new subsurface guide to the market, whose functional properties and technical new developments will wow furniture manufacturers and consumers in equal measure. Individuality is the buzzword of our age. Customised products play a very special role in almost all areas of our lives – and this also applies to our furniture, of course. Items of furniture must not only fulfil visual demands – they must, above all, be convincing in terms of their intelligent functions. “Modern furniture demands a maximum of functional variability to cater to the diverse requirements of customers”, confirms Andreas Fleischmann, Sub-surface Guides Systems Product Manager at GRASS. Invisible but nevertheless extremely effective An important prerequisite for this variability is fittings that allow furniture designers to freely express their creativity and that also offer the highest level of technical quality, particularly in view of the fact that the requirements of operational comfort, stability, silent operation and load-bearing performance are constantly rising. For this reason, the Page 6 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 fittings manufacturer, GRASS, is now launching an entirely new subsurface guide, which more than fulfils the new product requirements. The new sub-surface guide generation is called GRASS Dynapro and is the company’s response to all the currently identifiable trends within the furniture sector: from handle-free, high front panels, wide drawers, the demand for customisation in the design of drawers all the way through to the growing requirements of functional properties – Dynapro is the perfect guide system for modern furniture. Synchronisation means silent operation without any stop noises Unlike standard sub-surface guide systems, the Dynapro is the world’s only fitting to come with synchronisation. This mechanically-synchronised movement for each rail guarantees the high-end comfort that customers will be familiar with from the GRASS pull-out systems. With the Dynapro, the guide rails move without annoying noise or resistance, which makes using the guide system highly interesting for nonkitchen furniture as well. Even heavy loads do not affect the outstanding running properties of the Dynapro. The system can handle loads of up to 60 kg without any problem. Abrasion-resistant plastic rollers ensure constantly smooth, even running. “It’s great that lightly pulling the drawer is enough.” “How much force is required to open a drawer – this is how we identify technically-sophisticated functional systems”, explains Product Manager, Andreas Fleischmann. And with its outstanding values, the Page 7 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 Dynapro is also convincing in this respect. The extraction forces in the Dynapro are considerably lower than the market standard. When closing, the tried-and-tested Soft-close cushioning system offers gentle closing comfort and a particularly pleasant operating experience. 3D-adjustment for perfect gaps in furniture With the Dynapro, the specialists at GRASS have succeeded in creating a true innovation: Dynapro is the world’s first sub-surface guide system with integrated, three-dimensional adjustment. The entire drawer can be adjusted vertically and horizontally and its tilt can also be varied. The 3D adjustment functionality that has been standard for double-walled pull-out systems, such as the “Nova Pro” and the “DWDDynamic-XP”, for many years has now been transferred to a subsurface guide for the very first time. All adjustments are carried out without tools, are easy to execute and simple in their handling. In a nutshell: with a few simple actions, perfect gaps can be achieved in furniture. But it is not only consumers who will profit from the superlative technical development from Höchst. In particular, the Dynapro also offers – in addition to outstanding, functional properties – processors and industrial furniture manufacturers huge savings potentials: thanks to the new sub-surface guide with three-dimensional adjustment, they can now convert their manufacturing processes from four-sided to three-sided drawers. A second front section, which had to be commonly assembled in parallel to the front panel, is no longer required. Page 8 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 Because, with the Dynapro, the alignment of the front panel can be carried out using 3D adjustment functionality. “This makes the Dynapro a highly-efficient movement system for the future”, Andreas Fleischmann summarises. Special equipment for high-end comfort The fact that Dynapro actually does offer maximum functional variability is down to its compatibility with all GRASS comfort systems. Soft-close, the hugely-successful cushioning system, gently and quietly closes Dynapro drawers. Equipped with Tipmatic Plus, the mechanical opening system, it is possible to install large, handle-free front panels that open simply by lightly tapping them. And with the Sensomatic, the electromechanical opening system, Dynapro drawers open almost as if by magic. In conjunction with these extraordinary movement systems, GRASS’s Dynapro guarantees the very highest level of operational comfort. GRASS_Dynapro_1 GRASS_Dynapro_2 GRASS_Dynapro_3 Page 10 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 New solutions for wall and corner cabinets After the merger of GRASS and Mepla-Alfit and the creation of the new exclusive GRASS brand were successfully concluded in August of 2008, a new, important phase in the consolidation of the GRASS brand begins with the interzum in Cologne: for the very first time, Hetal product innovations will be uniformly presented to the international trade audience under the GRASS premium brand and be available worldwide through the new organisation’s sales and distribution network. Hetal, specialists in the fields of corner cabinet systems, flap systems, single-axle object hinges and cabinet mounting systems, will continue to be run as an independent company. However, the company’s sales and distribution activities will be exclusively carried out via the GRASS brand, which now offers its international customers a complete range of functional movement systems. And it is particularly the international customers and partners who will benefit from the restructured GRASS product portfolio. The expansive product range of innovative fittings systems, high manufacturing quality and numerous services forge a solutions package that is among the very best the industry has to offer. There is barely another manufacturer able to supply such a broad product range from a single source. Particularly the portfolio expansion towards wall and corner cabinet concepts with numerous proven and completely new and innovative solutions will undoubtedly represent a positive development for both the industry and craftsmen. Page 11 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 Squaring the circle – Quaturis 75 (formerly ES-75-D) GRASS has always had an excellent nose for future trends. The company quickly develops early prototypes, most of which go on to become serial products. With the new Quaturis 75 corner cabinet system, GRASS has once again succeeded in being ahead of the game. The functional and, above all, comfortable corner cabinet solution fulfils even the highest expectations: the range comprises fittings for 90 ° corner solutions, diagonal-corner cabinets, special fittings for semi-circular and circular trays, as well as various ½-, ¾- and full circle trays made of wood or plastic – with all components in harmony with each other and offering diverse adjustments and compositions depending on the specific requirements. The Quaturis 75 can be integrated into 80-cm and 90-cm cabinets and is suitable for various cabinet heights with its telescopic tube. For furniture makers, this offers considerable savings in terms of storage. Up to three trays can be mounted on the fitting, each separately heightadjustable. The integrated cushioning mechanism, which can be simply adapted to the various door and tray weights and loads, ensures a high degree of operational comfort. Elegantly and quietly, the opened doors glide back into their starting position. The doors are attached using uniform door hinges for normal and framed doors, providing kitchen manufacturers with a further logistical advantage. The Quaturis 75 acquires its high degree of stability as a result of the door connectors at the top and bottom and the solid-steel quality of the door hinges. A three-dimensional adjustment function for Page 12 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 the doors ensures optimum gaps in furniture. The new system will be fully developed and ready for delivery from the summer of 2009 onwards. Kinvaro flap systems – modern wall cabinet storage concepts It goes without saying that wall cabinets continue to rank among the most popular storage units in kitchens – and not simply because base units generally provide storage for many necessary kitchen appliances and our modern construction methods permit plenty of wall space in rooms. However, the most beautiful storage units will remain unused if the flap systems do not invite consumers to use wall cabinets on a regular basis. For this reason, GRASS supplies the Kinvaro flap system, whose sturdy and reliable function is not only light and silent, but is also ergonomically-sophisticated and comfortable in its operation. This makes daily chores in the kitchen a real delight – on all levels. Kinvaro flap systems create a perfect synthesis of design and functional movement with the zeitgeist of modern living. A fantastic example from the innovative Kinvaro range is the Kinvaro S-35 (formerly KB-35-D) swivel flap fitting, which was developed for all standard kitchen wall cabinet heights and widths. Thanks to the spring resistance-supported opening process, wall cabinet doors with widths of up to 1,200 mm and heights of up to 700 mm can be moved easily and without any substantial force. The strength of the spring resistance can be easily adjusted to the respective weight of the flap depending on the personal requirements of the user. As the Kinvaro S 35 swivels back Page 13 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 diagonally over the cabinet carcasses, ornamental trim, pelmets and lighting strips are no longer obstacles. Once open, it remains in any position without any subsequent slipping. And the Kinvaro S 35 is just as easy to close – a slight pull and the flap fitting returns to its starting position, gently and cushioned. The future starts today A little taste of what will be moving wall cabinet doors tomorrow will be the three functional prototypes Kinvaro L-80, Kinvaro S-35 E and Kinvaro F-20 E being premiered in Cologne, which will all go into serial production, and will be available, in 2010. Kinvaro L-80 is a lift fitting, which swivels the flaps upwards in parallel to the cabinet carcasses and away from the cabinet opening. In addition to the extremely-light movement, the low opening forces, the silent running, the fantastic stability and the exceptional assembly-friendliness stand out in particular. The adjustable closing cushioning is the same as for all models in the Kinvaro program and creates a uniform closing system for the entire range of flaps. Even more interesting are the Kinvaro S-35 E and the Kinvaro F-20 E, which are finally heralding the arrival of the electronic flap system. In line with the current advance of electrical furniture features in the kitchen, the wall cabinet now also offers the same level of comfort. The opening process is triggered across the entire front panel width – with a motor on the left and a wireless switch responsible for the movement. Both systems are simple for the industry and craftsmen to use in furni- Page 14 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 ture, as they have the identical bore positions and number of variations as the Kinvaro S-35 (formerly KB-35-D)/ Kinvaro F-20 (formerly FB-2D). It goes without saying that the Kinvaro S-35 E and the Kinvaro F-20 E come with an emergency function and can be easily opened and closed even in the event of power failures. Because, regardless of the material the doors are made from or what colours they use to create contrasts, nowhere can modern design express itself as well as in kitchens without handles. Linear, timeless, beautiful. Those opting for such designs can of course expect optimum movement comfort for the drawers and pull-outs despite the absence of handles, grooves and knobs. A promise that manufacturers can only keep by using corresponding fittings systems. As the only supplier in this field, GRASS offers a total of three different systems for handle-free front panels: Tipmatic Plus, Sensomatic and Sensotronic. All are unique in their function and, thanks to their different pricing categories, perfect for creating that competitive edge and offering consumers the best-possible customisation options. Maximum comfort without electrical supports is provided by the world’s first synchronised, purely mechanical opening system, the Tipmatic Plus. Hence, handle-free furniture can also be created without the need for electricity. Conversely, the Sensomatic’s motorised ejection provides electronic support for opening drawers and pull-outs. The electro-mechanical opening system can also be combined with all GRASS pull-out and guide systems. And all without the need to adapt the drawers and pull-outs themselves. Globally-unique is the Sensotronic, the first fully-electronically controlled pull-out system. Sensotronic scores with its never-seen-before and controllable movement with collision protection and blockade recognition. Page 18 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 These three fittings systems offer furniture manufacturers the option to select precisely the solution that provides their range with the most attractive value added. Whether in the exclusive or mid-price segments – the GRASS fittings innovations fulfil every requirement and offer a staggered range of functions for manufacturers and consumers alike. Tipmatic Plus for comfort without electricity The Tipmatic series is the perfect choice for all consumers who prefer purely-mechanical solutions but still want a high level of user-friendliness. The Tipmatic Plus function for drawers is particularly impressive: regardless of which part of the front panel is tapped, the system opens easily and gently. The reason for this is the synchronisation of the fitting, which is – to date – unique for mechanical systems. Tipmatic Plus functions of course with all GRASS pull-out and guide systems. And the Tipmatic series is also available for simple furniture doors. Movement without automatic closing requires the rod-shaped Tipmatic Pin and magnet. By simply and lightly tapping the front panels, the doors open with a pleasant opening angle. Tipmatic Plus enables the same functionality, all integrated into the hinge. This comprises a combination of a closer unit, an ejection element and a hinge without automatic closing. The Tipmatic Plus can even be retrofitted to some GRASS hinge systems, such as the Nexis Impresso and the Nexis Click-on. Sensomatic – a serial product for universal deployment Thanks to the touch-sensitive automatic function of the Sensomatic, a gentle tap is all that is required to set the pull-outs in motion. And yet, Page 19 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 Sensomatic is extremely frugal: this applies to both the power consumption and the space occupied by the ejection unit behind the drawer. And the fact that the opening system can also be triggered across the entire front panel surface, today makes the Sensomatic a perfect movement system for the functional requirements of tomorrow. The electro-mechanical solution is aimed at increasing the comfort, and hence the value, of furniture. In contrast to the completely-electronically controlled solution, the Sensomatic is based on an electronic ejection unit and the drawer’s actual path is free. Closing a pull-out equipped with the Sensomatic is equally effortless. Comfortable and virtually silent, the GRASS Soft-close cushioning system completes the closing process. To make it as easy as possible for the furniture industry to use the Sensomatic, GRASS uses the innovative function for the proven Nova Pro and DWD-Dynamic-XP pull-out systems as well as for the new Dynapro sub-surface guide. This means that the Sensomatic is easily fitted to standard cabinet carcasses and drawers. But this value-added fitting can also be retrofitted to furniture. The Sensomatic is not least a highly-effective system due to the fact that it deploys a single drive unit for all weight classes and cabinet carcass widths of up to 1,200 mm. While furniture manufacturers will benefit from the economic and, above all, flexible installation, consumers are provided with maximum comfort in terms of function and quality. Page 20 GRASS – PRESS INFORMATION “INSIDE MEETS OUTSIDE” INTERZUM – MAY 2009 Sensotronic – the world’s only fully-electronically controlled guide system In the premium segment, GRASS has been supplying – with the Sensotronic – electronic solutions for some time now. This globally-unique fitting completely automatically moves a drawer across the entire length of its guide. Hence, the product unites state-of-the-art technology with the highest level of operating comfort. Lightly tapping or pulling is all that is required – and the drawers and pull-outs open as if by magic. Completely automatically. Always at the same speed and always to the same extent. Regardless of the loads they are carrying. Sensotronic opens, closes, accelerates, brakes and controls the movement electronically. For example, this intelligent fitting prevents pinching as well as the opening of pull-outs positioned at an angle to each other. And the front panel protection system functions similarly: drawers positioned above each other only open to the extent that ensures that they do not collide with each other.
