The Community
With a population of nearly
100,000, Chico is located in the
Sacramento Valley near the
foothills of the Sierra Nevadas.
It is 180 miles northeast of San
Francisco and 90 miles north of
Sacramento and offers a
reasonable cost of living
compared to metropolitan areas.

Park, second largest municipal

Department of Communication Arts and Sciences
The Position: The Department of Communication Arts and Sciences at California State University, Chico
announces a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor beginning August 2015. Position contingent on
funding. As a university that educates students of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds, we value a

Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Speech-language Pathology or Communication Sciences and
Disorders or related discipline (by 7/2015) and Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC)-SLP. Eligibility for
California licensure required.
Preferred Qualifications: Teaching emphasis on acoustics/psychoacoustics, anatomy and physiology,
research methods, audiology-based courses, and/or American Sign Language. Experience with adult and medicallybased populations. Experience working with diverse populations. Demonstrated potential for scholarship required.
Potential for teaching excellence expected.
Responsibilities: This tenure-track position carries responsibilities in the areas of undergraduate and graduate
teaching, clinical instruction, research, student advising and mentoring, and service to department and university.
Teaching assignments may include courses in speech and hearing sciences, research methods, audiology, as well
as others as determined by the needs of the program. Research and grant writing is expected. Opportunities for
thesis direction are available.
Salary: Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications. An attractive benefits package is available.
The Department: The Communication Sciences and Disorders Program (CMSD) is in the Department of
Communication Arts and Sciences, one of seven departments in the College of Communication and Education.
ASHA’s Council on Academic Accreditation accredits the program. In the CMSD program there are five
tenure/tenure track faculty as well as several part-time faculty for approximately 160 undergraduate and 45
graduate students. The program’s emphasis is primarily directed toward producing the finest clinicians of speechlanguage pathology. Job placement has been consistently 100% over the past decade. Our respected position in
