The Position: The School of Education is searching for a tenure track assistant professor to start August, 2016. California State University, Chico is seeking faculty who are competent in their field, collaborative with colleagues and staff, and committed to student success. Position is contingent on funding. Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate Bilingual (Spanish/English)/Language Acquisition or in a closely related areas such as Language, Literacy and Culture. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate may be considered; however, the doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2016. Direct experience working with English Learners (now Emergent Bilinguals). Ability to teach in English and Spanish professional credential courses in Bilingual/Second Language education methodology as well as graduate level courses in this field. Ability to teach in one or more supporting areas (e.g, second language literacy for Emergent Bilinguals) and another area (e.g, educational leadership). Ability to supervise student teachers in multilingual and crosscultural classroom settings, and monolingual English classrooms. Substantial knowledge about issues of language, literacy and culture as they manifest themselves in bilingual and ELD educational settings. Evidence of scholarship commensurate with academic experience, in research relative to Bilingual/ESL, Long-Term Emergent Bilinguals and general teacher education. A minimum of three years classroom-based experience, grades TK-8 and/or 7-12, working with students from diverse backgrounds in Bilingual/ELD programs. Preferred Qualifications: Work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Collaborate with undergraduate programs that lead to professional credential programs, Ability to work in P-12 staff development. Expertise in delivering instruction using distance education, online technologies, and learning management systems such as Blackboard. Demonstrated potential for grant writing. Understandings of blended programs, experience working with special populations and contemporary service models for Emergent Bilinguals. University-level teaching and supervision experience. Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate pre-requisite, and graduate courses related to the teacher preparation program for teachers of English Learners in Bilingual and English-only settings. Conduct original research and contribute to related research in the area of Bilingual/EL. Facilitate EL efforts across all teacher education pathways. Contribute to the school mission in preparing educators and in ongoing program improvement. Collaborate with public school and university constituencies. Supervise student teachers and graduate field experiences in the rural/suburban service area of CSU, Chico. Advise credential and graduate students and serve on graduate thesis/project committees. Other assignments as necessary to meet programmatic and departmental needs. Salary: Salary commensurate with education and experience.
