EIGHT PARTS OF SPEECH GRAMMAR ANCHOR ACTIVITY
In order to assess your comprehension of the eight parts of speech, I am
assigning you an extension activity. This activity will begin immediately and be
due Friday, Oct. 3.
I want you to think about the eight parts of speech. Now think about the
elements of plot. You will be writing a story showing mastery of the elements of
plot while using the parts of speech.
This activity will take some thought (yes, using your brain cells creatively).
In order for you to not be overwhelmed, you need to finish the story by
Wednesday, Oct. 1.
I am looking for creative, well thought-out ideas in your story. I expect
nothing less than your best work. THE MAIN IDEA OF THIS ACTIVITY IS TO SHOW
HOW WELL YOU UNDERSTAND PLOT AND YOUR ABILITY TO IDENTIFY THE EIGHT
PARTS OF SPEECH CORRECTLY.
WRITTEN COMPONENT
You will write one paragraph for each part of speech. In each
paragraph you will underline all of the examples of that part of speech (five will
be the minimum, except for adjectives (I need at least 8) and adverbs (I need
to see at least 6).
In addition, we should see all characteristics of plot (including exposition,
conflict, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution).
REQUIREMENTS
1. All stories will be typed in class on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 2 and 3.
2. The parts of speech for each paragraph will be underlined.
3. The order of underlined words are:
a) nouns (paragraph 1)
b) verbs (paragraph 2)
c) adjectives (paragraph 3)
d) adverbs (paragraph 4)
e) pronouns (paragraph 5)
f) prepositions (paragraph 6)
g) conjunctions (paragraph 7)
h) interjections (paragraph 8)
4. If you underline something that is not the correct part of speech for that
paragraph, points will be deducted. If you fail to underline a part of
speech, points will also be deducted.
5. Your work must be edited for spelling, punctuation and grammatical
mistakes.
6. You will be given a PLOT diagram to turn in with your essay showing how
your story fits the five elements of plot.
