Stephen Johnston Managing Director & General Manager The Fairfax at Embassy Row, Washington D.C., a Luxury Collection Hotel Stephen Johnston joined the Fairfax at Embassy Row as Managing Director & General Manager in July, 2011. Born in Dublin, Ireland, Stephen has spent his entire career to date working in the hospitality industry. After completing his studies at the Dublin College of Catering, Stephen began his career by working in a number of small and medium-sized hotels in Ireland and England, spending time in both food & beverage and rooms department positions as he furthered his skills in the late 1980’s. In February 1990, Stephen joined the then Jurys Hotel Group (later renamed The Doyle Collection) and worked with them in Ireland, the United Kingdom and the United States as they grew their business from three hotels to a portfolio of 36 hotels. Stephen held a variety of positions with that company – opening three new hotels for them in Ireland before moving to Boston, MA in August 2003 to open and operate The Back Bay Hotel (formerly Jurys Boston Hotel), located within the city’s former Police Headquarters. Stephen is honored to have been chosen by Pyramid Hotel Group to manage the famous & historic 4-Star/4-Diamond Fairfax at Embassy Row. Stephen is a committed hospitality professional, and brings a unique style of Irish hospitality to this landmark hotel. Stephen lives in Bethesda, MD with his wife, Audrey and children Sarah & Harry.
