Camp Keliix Counselor Job Title: Soccer Camp Counselor Levels: Experienced and First-year Reports to: David Lawson, Director of Training and Coaching Position Purpose: To assist David Lawson in running soccer skill-building drills and general camp activities which are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities. Assist in the setup and storage of the equipment and facilities. Primary Job Responsibilities: 1. Run skill-building drills for an assigned group of campers Obtain and follow directions from David Lawson in running the drills. Demonstrate drills in manner appropriate for the age and ability of the campers. Provide feedback to campers that is supportive and constructive. Provide feedback to David on how the campers did with the drill. Meet periodically with David throughout the day to get assignments. 2. Lead a group of campers in general camp activities including: Arrival 15 minutes before the campers and stay until all assigned campers are picked up or otherwise accounted for. Conducting morning warm-up and attendance Organizing lunch and water breaks (take them with your assigned group). Running scrimmages or other games. 3. Assist in the setup and storage of the equipment and facilities Help bring equipment to the field each morning, such as balls, cones, coolers, first-aid kits, water. Help put away equipment at the end of the day. Help gather balls, cones, or other equipment throughout the day. May involve moving of nets. Help pick-up trash and leave the camp site clear of debris Other Job Duties: Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities and leading those as assigned. Be responsive to David Lawson and participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise camp functions in a coordinated manner. Take attendance of assigned group of campers and ensure no campers leave the site until picked up by parents. Learn the names of your assigned campers and know where they are at all times. As a counselor, you are expected to remain on site for the entire camp day. Be attentive to the health needs of the campers. Remind campers to drink water, put on sunscreen and sit in the shade during breaks. Watch for any signs of heat exhaustion – weakness, dizziness, headache, fainting, nausea, disorientation, excess sweating followed by inability to sweat. If a player shows any sign of heat exhaustion the counselor should get help immediately from the parent volunteer on site to begin treatment. Treatment includes move to shade, ice at pulse points, rest, cool water and call to 911 if the player doesn't immediately improve. Qualifications (Minimum qualifications and experience) Past or current Keliix trained player. U18 or older Experienced counselor – Must have at least one year of prior Camp Keliix experience as a counselor First-Year Counselor – Must have attended Camp Keliix as a camper at least one time. Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the core techniques of Keliix soccer skills development – Dribbling, Shooting, Defending. Ability to listen to and thoughtfully apply direction from David or the other Keliix training/coaching staff. Other Aspects of the Position: Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and seek assistance from the Director of Trianing Coaching or the parent volunteer regarding appropriate behavior-management techniques. Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid..
