College Planning Senior Year Timeline
September
 Schedule an appointment with your counselor for your credit check to ensure you have
all of the correct courses to meet graduation requirements. Post-secondary plans
including scholarships, completing college applications, possible military or work plans
will be discussed at this time.
 Delaware Gazette Teen of the Week applications are due by Friday, September 7.
 Continue to participate in extracurricular activities---add new activities if possible.
 Keep working on your grades.
 Sign up to meet with college admission counselors visiting Big Walnut High School.

 Register for SAT, sat.collegeboard.org/register (test on Oct 3 -register by Sept 3)
 Register for ACT, www.actstudent.org (test on Oct 24 at Big Walnut- register by Sept 18)
 Suburban College Fair, Otterbein College, September 20, 1-3:30 pm
 Columbus Kiwanis College Fair, Veterans Memorial Center, September 21, 9 am –
12:30 pm
 National College Fair – Duke Energy Center, 525 Elm Street, Cincinnati, September 13,
1-4 pm
 Performing & Visual Arts College Fair – Xavier University Cintas Center, September 21,
7-9 pm
 Christian College Fairs – The Church at Polaris, September 15, 6:30 – 8:30 pm
 Start looking for scholarships on Naviance as well as the internet and other sources
 Utilize 2 college visitations opportunity. Obtain college visit form in attendance office.
 Males must register for selective service on 18th birthday.
 Register for NCAA Eligibility Center if you are an athlete and did not do so during your
junior year.
 Request recommendation letters through Naviance with a two weeks notice.
October
 Begin completing college applications. Request counselor send official transcript.
 Finish Early Decision Applications, if applicable.
 Check Naviance every few weeks for new scholarships.
 Learning Disability College Fair – Gahanna Lincoln High School Cafeteria, October 7,
6:30 – 8 pm
 Register for SAT, sat.collegeboard.org/register (test on Nov 7-register by Oct 9).
 If needed, take Ohio Graduation Test (October 26-November 3).
November
 Register for ACT, www.actstudent.org (test on Dec 12 at Big Walnut- register by Nov 6).
 Register for SAT, sat.collegeboard.org/register (test on Dec 5-register by Nov 5)
 Continue submitting college applications. Don’t forget to ask your counselor to send an
official transcript by requesting through Naviance.
 Check Naviance, turn in scholarship applications.
December
 Look for new scholarships on Naviance.
 Get final college applications submitted prior to Christmas Break.
 Apply for a PIN number for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at
www.pin.ed.gov. Both student and parent need a PIN


January

 Attend Financial Aid Completion Program (details to follow).

 If needed, take Ohio Graduation Test (March 14-18).

 Submit local scholarship applications, including Big Walnut Education Foundation
Scholarship.
May
 May 1st is National Commitment Day—last day to send in deposit to college of your
choice and notify others that you will not be attending.
