I hope you had a wonderful summer (and found time to get all those college essays written) and ready to make your last year in high the school the best. APPLYTEXAS and The Common Application are both available online and you can begin submitting applications as soon as you are ready. You may also begin requesting transcripts via Naviance . Please remember The Common Application and some other schools will require both counselor and teacher recommendations. You should be sure and complete your Senior Brag Sheet in Naviance prior to requesting recommendations. Be sure and talk to the teachers in person and then enter your request in Naviance. Let me know if you have questions. Finding & Winning Scholarships Last weekend’s Wall Street Journal had an excellent article on scholarships. SAT Important Announcement Texas Tech University is hosting an allexpenses paid bus trip to provide current seniors with the experience to learn more about engineering at Tech. also attaching a copy to this newsletter. Some points to keep in mind: Many merit based scholarships are awarded by colleges and often do not even require an additional application Finding outside scholarships will take some time and effort but there are many resources available. (Note: see scholarship list in Naviance and also links to search engines) Check with parents’ employers and also groups and organizations you and your family belong to. These are often good sources for scholarships. Happenings……. The trip will include transportation, meals, lodging, campus tours, & a ticket to a Red Raider Football game. Applications are available at www.admissions.ttu.edu/ASME-SPE14. The deadline is September 19, 2014 but space is limited so apply early.
