Write-up Guidelines - 3rd Year Inorganic Laboratory Please submit each write-up individually on A4 paper, either stapled or in a pocket. The write-ups may be hand-written or word processed. Make sure your NAME is clearly marked on the front page. Include relevant spectra – make sure they are labelled appropriately (including your name, the date and the compound name!) Ensure that any samples prepared are submitted in sample vials labelled with your name, the compound name, the date and the experiment number. Format of the write-up: o Title and Date o Introduction - a few lines to describe the nature and aims of the experiment o Experimental – a description of the experimental details – written in the past tense to describe what you did and any observations – don’t just copy out the instructions from the manual!. o Results - include here weighings of reagents and products, titration data, melting points, magnetic measurements, calculations etc o Discussion – this should include discussion of your results and the answers to any questions in the lab manual. Please be concise. Make sure your calculations are neatly and logically laid out. Answer all the questions – if you need help ask a demonstrator and consult a text book!
