CAP Write-up Components Each CAP write-up must be a neat and carefully presented. Using word processor for any written parts is helpful. Hand-written or drawn diagrams are completely acceptable. Be sure that each page is numbered and that your name appears on the write-up. Use only one side of your paper. Spread your work out; this makes it easier to read. Make a copy of your work or take a picture (in case I lose it). I want you to write your paper as if you are writing to someone who does not understand. That is, your audience is one who does not understand; after reading your paper they will understand. I will judge your explanations based on this criterium. Each problem write-up must have each of the following components: 1. PROBLEM STATEMENT. A clear re-statement of the problem in your own words, written so that someone unfamiliar with the problem can pick up your paper and understand what you were asked to do. 2. SOLUTION. A clear statement of your solution to the problem (or a partial solution if that is all you have), along with an explanation of how you know that your answer is a correct one. In this component, be very clear about why each of your statements are true. Charts, drawings, tables, and graphs are often a good way to help you organize and present your material. Re-write: If you need to do a re-write (you received an ‘IP’ for In Progress) then do the following: Do the re-write on separate paper; Address only the issues pointed out on you original; Explain what the issue was and how you fixed it; Turn in the original and the re-write together.
