WE MEET GOD

Prelude – Tiento/Prelude ....................................................... Jean Langlais

Welcome and Announcements

Choral Introit (11:00) – Grant Thy Grace ............................... Pierce Getz

*Call to Worship ................................................................. Rev. Robinson

In an unsettled world, where people long to find their way, to feel secure, from lives of turbulence and rush, we come, to seek your will, our God, your word to hear, our faith to live.

In an unsettled world, where self-interest rules and greedy systems call the tune, for strength to keep our values straight, we come, with trust in you, O God, to rejoice in you, to hear your word of grace, and be empowered to live our faith.

(adapted from hymn, Unsettled World, by David Sparks)

*Hymn of Praise – God is Here!.................................................... No. 461

*Prayer of Confession

Lord God,

We confess that we are divided in our loyalties.

We want to have your grace and love, but balk at obedience to your will.

We want to put you first in our lives, but not yet.

We want to be autonomous, free to choose our own path, and end up enslaved to the values of the world.

Make us captive to your matchless love.

Teach us to trust that when we lose our lives in your service, we will find our truest selves, through our Lord Jesus, who has conquered sin and evil. Amen.

*Response to Confession – O Jesus, I Have Promised ...................Verse 3

O let me hear Thee speaking in accents clear and still,

Above the storms of passion, the murmurs of self-will;

O speak to reassure me, to hasten or control;

O speak, and make me listen, Thou guardian of my soul.

*Assurance of Pardon

*Act of Praise – Gloria Patri ......................................................... No. 567

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.

Amen. Amen. Amen.

GOD’S WORD FOR US

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

OUR RESPONSE TO GOD

* Affirmation of Faith from A Brief Declaration of Faith

We trust in Jesus Christ,

Fully human, fully God.

Jesus proclaimed the reign of God:

preaching good news to the poor

and release to the captives,

teaching by word and deed

and blessing the children,

healing the sick

and binding up the brokenhearted,

eating with outcasts,

forgiving sinners,

and calling all to repent and believe the gospel.

Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition,

Jesus was crucified,

suffering the depths of human pain

and giving his life for the sins of the world.

God raised Jesus from the dead,

vindicating his sinless life,

breaking the power of sin and evil,

delivering us from death to life eternal.

Prayers of the People

The Lord’s Prayer – (Traditional) .............................................. No. 16

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
