MEDIA ADVISORY March 13 to 19, 2006 Is International Brain Awareness Week Montreal, February 21, 2006 – Brain Awareness Week will take place from March 13 to March 19, 2006. Neuroscientists and organizations dedicated to neuroscience research around the world will be organizing activities to advance public awareness about the progress and benefits of brain research. Here in Canada, Society for Neuroscience chapters have arranged for graduate students to visit hundreds of local elementary and high schools to talk about the brain and the field of neuroscience. Additionally, prominent researchers will host public lectures at universities or research hospitals on topics ranging from emotions, stroke and cognition, to neurodegenerative diseases and memory loss. NeuroScience Canada, a national non-profit organization that develops and supports collaborative, multidisciplinary, multi-institutional research across the neurosciences, will be releasing a crucial report on diseases, disorders and injuries of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system, and the enormous impact they represent for the Canadian society and the healthcare system. NeuroScience Canada will also be hosting a special presentation of the IMAX movie “Wired to Win,” in partnership with the Montreal Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience and Montreal Science Centre.
