TIA STANDARD DATA TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT SERIAL ASYNCHRONOUS AUTOMATIC DIALING AND CONTROL TIA/EIA-602-A July 2000 TELECOMMUNICATIONS INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION TIA/EIA-602-A DATA TRANSMISSION SYSTEMS AND EQUIPMENT SERIAL ASYNCHRONOUS AUTOMATIC DIALING AND CONTROL (From Standards Proposal No. 4686, formulated under the cognizance of TIA Technical Subcommittee TR-30.2 on Data Transmission Interface and Protocols) CONTENTS 1 SCOPE........................................................................................................................ 1 2 NORMATIVE REFERENCES ...................................................................................... 1 3 DEFINITIONS.............................................................................................................. 1 4 PHYSICAL LAYER ...................................................................................................... 1 5 SYNTAX AND PROCEDURES.................................................................................... 1 6 FUNCTIONS ............................................................................................................... 1 i TIA/EIA-602-A Foreword (This Foreword is not part of this Standard) This Standard was formulated under the cognizance of TIA Subcommittee TR-30.2 on Data Transmission Interfaces and Protocols. This Standard is a revision of TIA/EIA-602, Data Transmission Systems and Equipment Serial Asynchronous Automatic Dialing and Control. ITU-T Recommendation V.250 (formerly V.25bis) was approved by the ITU-T. The approval of V.250 was strongly backed by U.S. participants of Study Group 16. The TIA TR-30.2 members have determined that ITU-T Recommendation V.250 contains all of the requirements which were contained in the first edition of TIA/EIA-602. Recommendation V.250 goes on with additional commands which were not included in TIA/EIA-602. TIA/EIA-602-A therefore, is written to essentially point to the ITU-T Recommendation V.250, listing those commands and options which are contained in V.250 and apply to TIA/EIA-602-A. ii TIA/EIA-602-A 1 SCOPE This Standard is applicable to the interconnection of data terminal equipment (DTE) and data circuit-terminating equipment (DCE) employing serial binary data operation via the ITUT Recommendation V.24, 100-series interchange circuits. This Standard, through reference to ITU-T Recommendation V.250, provides four elements: -- codifies existing practice in common asynchronous DCE that use the AT command set. It identifies the protocol elements procedures, and behaviors that were found to be held in common among a large portion of DCE manufacturers; -- defines a format for extension of the AT command set in an orderly fashion. It reserves the "+" command prefix to be used by other standardized extensions; -- provides a set of standardized extensions, based on the extended "+" command format. 2 NORMATIVE REFERENCES The following standards which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this Standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on the Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below. ANSI and TIA maintain registers of currently valid national standards published by them.
