Worthing Hospital Lyndhurst Road Worthing West Sussex BN11 2DH Tel: 01903 205111 Fax: 01903 285101 www.westernsussexhospitals.nhs.uk PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET TRANSIENT ISCHAEMIC ATTACK (TIA) We think you have had a TIA or “mini stroke”. The symptoms are similar to a stroke but have disappeared within 24 hours. A TIA is a sign that something is wrong and must not be ignored. The tablets we have given you are very important and significantly reduce the risk of another TIA or stroke. The tablets you have been given are either: Aspirin 300mg to take once a day OR Clopidogrel 300mg loding dose and 75mg thereafter to take once a day if you cannot tolerate Aspirin. You must take these tablets AT LEAST until you have been seen in the TIA clinic or other appropriate medical clinic. You can expect to be seen in a clinic as an out patient in the hospital within a few days. You will be contacted with an appointment time and told where to attend. If, in the unlikely event that you have NOT been contacted within 4 days, please phone the TIA/stroke secretary on 01903 285222 (direct dial hospital number) ext 5625 to find out what has happened. Please be aware that you must NOT DRIVE for one month after a TIA. You may drive after one month following a TIA without informing the DVLA IF YOU REMAIN WELL AND SYMPTOM FREE. D:\106738469.doc
