Cultural Facilities Corporation Position Description Position details Position title: Director, ACT Historic Places Position number: 9009 Classification: Senior Professional Officer Grade B Branch: ACT Historic Places Security clearance: Not Required Date of review: 18 January 2016 Organisational environment The Cultural Facilities Corporation (CFC) is an ACT Government statutory authority established under the Cultural Facilities Corporation ACT (1997), to manage the following significant cultural venues in Canberra: The Canberra Theatre Centre ACT Historic Places (Lanyon, Calthorpes' House, and Mugga-Mugga) Canberra Museum and Gallery and The Nolan Collection Gallery Position objective To manage the operations and activities of the three ACT Historic Places: Lanyon, Calthorpes’ House and Mugga-Mugga. Reporting relationships This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer, CFC and works in close liaison with the Chief Finance Officer and the Director, Canberra Museum and Gallery. As part of the senior management team of the CFC, manage the operations and activities of ACT Historic Places: Lanyon, Calthorpes’ House and Mugga-Mugga, within the parameters of the long-term strategic plan and annual corporate plans of the CFC, and report as required to the Chief Executive Officer and Board of the CFC. 2. Manage the staff of ACT Historic Places, including managing staff work programs and identifying and managing staff training and development requirements. 3. In consultation with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Finance Officer, and Director, Canberra Museum and Gallery develop and manage the budget of ACT Historic Places. 4. Provide high-level strategic direction for the presentation, conservation, access, interpretation, promotion and venue hire of ACT Historic Places, including the collections. 5. In liaison with the Director, Canberra Museum and Gallery and Assistant Director, Access and Learning, contribute to the strategic direction for the development and implementation of education and public programs, and policies and procedures in relation to the ACT Historic Places and their collections. 6. Represent the CFC in professional, government and community fora and develop partnerships with other cultural institutions, professional organisations and community groups, which facilitate the delivery of business priorities. 7. Work with the Historic Places Advisory Committee and report to the Board of the CFC as necessary. 8. Perform other duties as directed. Demonstrated high level ability to provide strategic vision for ACT Historic Places and to contribute to corporate goals, preferably in a government context, as a member of the CFC's senior management team. 2. High level ability to implement contemporary cultural heritage management practices, provide curatorial oversight of historic buildings/sites/collections, implement current conservation and museum collection management procedures, and ensure compliance with heritage legislation. 3. High level people management skills, preferably in the context of historic buildings/sites/collections, including the ability to provide oversight and supervision of an interdisciplinary team. 4. High level financial management skills, preferably in the context of historic buildings/sites/collections, including the ability to secure resources from internal and external sources. 5. High level asset management skills, preferably in the context of historic buildings/sites/collections, including the ability to oversight capital works and upgrade programs. 6. High level verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal, presentation and liaison skills, and demonstrated experience in the writing of policies and reports. 7. Demonstrated awareness of, and commitment to, the principles of Workplace Diversity and Equity, workplace relations and workplace health and safety, and the ability to apply them to work practices. Additional information/Qualifications Tertiary qualifications in cultural heritage management, Australian social history and/or other relevant discipline highly desirable. Current driver’s licence essential. Occasional out of hours work will be required.
