STEP-BY-STEP APPLICATION CHECKLIST FOR THE:
Emergency Medical Science (EMS)/Paramedic Student
BIO 2524 is recommended prior to entry to the program. If not, it is a co-requisite and must be completed
with a grade of 2.0 or better in order to be eligible to write the National Registry examination for Paramedics.
______ Complete the MGCCC College Admission Requirements
_____ Meet with the Counselor on the JD campus and/or EMS/Paramedic Department for detailed program
information
_____ Visit the EMS/Paramedic Program Website

______ Attend a Mandatory Pre-Allied Health Orientation Session (Check Program website for dates & times)
_____ Provide evidence of Certification in Mississippi as an Emergency Medical Technician – Basic Level
_____ Achieve the ACT Reading sub-score of 17 (or COMPASS equivalent of 77 in Reading)
_____ Successful Completion (“C” or better) of the prerequisite course BIO 2514, Anatomy and Physiology I
_____ Must be a Nationally Registered EMT; If not held previously, students must obtain state EMT certification
after admission into the program
______ Successfully complete (70% or better) the EMT-Basic Review Exam (Check Program website for registration
information)
____ Obtain a Criminal Background Check from a MGCCC Campus Police office. The CBC result is
required prior to submitting the application. Please check the program’s website for the Campus
Police testing times.
______ Prior to the deadline, but after successful completion of the above program entry requirements, make an
appointment with a Counselor at the JD Campus to submit the application for Program Admission.
Associate Degree in Applied Science Courses
An optional semester is available to students for the completion of an Associate degree in Applied Sciences.
To complete this degree, students must complete the following additional courses:
______ ENG 1113 (English Composition I)
______ PSY 1513 (General Psychology)
______ SPT 1113 (Public Speaking)
______ Elective Fine Arts/Humanities
