A PhD position at the medical oncology - gastrointestinal oncology unit (Université Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium) The gastrointestinal oncology unit is directed by Dr. Alain Hendlisz, PhD and is located at the oncological hospital Institut Jules Bordet in Brussels, Belgium. The main focus of our research laboratory is the detection of biomarkers that can be used as an indicator of the state of a patient’s disease. More specifically, we aim to identify factors that can be used to select patients that will not benefit from a specific treatment. This could prevent the useless administration of an expensive therapy to patients that will not respond to the therapy and thus also prevent potentially severe side-effects. The translational projects are part of several multi-centric clinical studies. Our research laboratory works in close collaboration with the Breast Cancer Translational Research Laboratory (BCTL) of Dr. Christos Sotiriou and Dr. Christine Desmedt and with the nuclear medicine department of Dr. Patrick Flamen. The successful candidate will join a small but enthusiastic team of researchers and oncologists aiming to bring gastrointestinal cancer research to a higher level. Candidates should hold a master degree in medicine, biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering or pharmacy and show great interest in gastro intestinal cancer translational research including genomics (Next-generation sequencing technology) and imaging. Candidates should be hard-working, motivated, initiative and social. Fluency in English is expected and a good knowledge in French is also beneficial. Positions are initially funded for 2 years, with possible extension for additional 2 years. Starting date: 1st October 2015 How to apply: Applications including a curriculum vitae, a motivational letter and two referees should be sent to Caroline Vandeputte, Phd, head of the gastro intestinal oncology translational research group (caroline.vandeputte@bordet.be). Please do not hesitate to contact her should you have any question regarding this position.
