is necessary.

Brief history of psychiatry and laymen's opinion (abridgment)
My lecture aims to introduce psychiatry as a medical sector, its therapies and its assessment
during its development.
During my research I studied, on one hand, what the psychiatric institution itself means for
the public, what its prestige is, how it is judged by them, and what the prejudices there are
about psychiatric treatments and about patients treated there. I also studied, on the other hand,
what the relationship is between those working in a psychiatric institution and patients treated
there, and what prejudices exist against them.
I think towards mental health, a more modern, more humane approach is evolving, according
to which, patients are more like cooperating partners, but there is still a need for
improvement. The situation becomes more complicated by the fact that the majority of people
can imagine a disease as a change of visible, tangible symptoms and they are unable to
imagine what to do with psychological problems. People are embarrassed and they try to calm
their negative feelings with their accumulating aggression towards patients and diseases.
