SAVE THE CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL ROLE PROFILE TITLE: Global Campaign Communications Manager TEAM/PROGRAMME: Global Campaign Team GRADE: TBC LOCATION: London, UK CONTRACT LENGTH: Permanent CHILD SAFEGUARDING: Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people ROLE PURPOSE: The Communications Manager is responsible for to developing and driving the implementation of an effective internal and external communications strategy and tactics for Save the Children’s priority campaign. Save the Children’s current global campaign to end preventable child deaths, EVERY ONE, ends in December 2015. We will launch our next priority campaign, focused on excluded children, in early 2016. The post holder chairs the Global Campaign Communications Working Group, which reports into the Global Campaign Task Group. To deliver the role the post holder works collaboratively with colleagues in Save the Children Member media, social media and related communications teams, the Regional Communications leads and the Global Media Unit, and with other functions of the Global Campaign Team and campaigns and advocacy colleagues across Save the Children, including mobilisation, advocacy and monitoring and evaluation, to develop integrated strategies. SCOPE OF ROLE: Reports to: Global Campaign Mobilisation Director Staff reporting to this post: Dotted line to Global Campaign Internal Communications Manager; consultants, where required Budget Responsibilities: no direct responsibility Role Dimensions: this is a highly demanding, fast-moving role that requires strong skills in communications strategy development, project and line management, written and spoken communication and social media, to deliver the message and increase engagement in our global campaign. The role will require an ability to work in a networked structure across functional and geographical boundaries. KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY : 1. Lead the development of a communications strategy and plan for the next global campaign, maximizing the communications potential of national, regional and international influencing opportunities, events, ambassadors and innovative social media engagement tools, ensuring the consistency and coherence of our external communication, working closely with the next campaign planning groups, the Global Media Unit (GMU) and other Save the Children International communications colleagues 2. Chair and drive the work of the Global Campaign Communications Working Group, reporting in to the Global Campaign Task Group, to develop and coordinate our external messaging and tactics for the global campaign, and to build our communications capacity and skills globally 3. Develop our engagement with external partners to significantly increase the reach of our message and bring in cutting edge communications thinking to improve our execution, including SAVE THE CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL ROLE PROFILE working with the GMU to develop media partnerships 4. Collaborate with the GMU at key campaign events and opportunities, ensuring that the campaign narrative is well reflected and that campaigns and communications staff in country offices, regional offices, global advocacy offices and members receive timely media and social media resources, appropriate to their context 5. Guide the work of the Global Campaign Internal Communications Manager, working closely with the SCI Communications Director, to engage and mobilise our international and Member staff in the campaign and ensure that our internal communications materials are effective and coherent across country office, regional and Member internal communications. Maintain editorial oversight of the campaign bulletin, website and social media presence, linking with Member social media teams 6. Support campaign related communications for the International CEO, maintain editorial control of communications products including op-eds, blogs and social media content 7. Oversee the production of global campaign communications products, tools, materials and publications for internal and external audiences 8. Master’s degree in a relevant field is desirable. Cultural sensitivity, with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing and negotiation. Experience of building personal networks, resulting in securing significant new opportunities for the organisation Experience of developing and managing communications content and tools and making best use of user-created content.
