BOOK REPORT “MAIN CHARACTER” Type of Book: Fiction Date Due: Friday, October 19, 2012 Dear Student and Parent: This is the first book report for the 2012-2013 school year. As stated above, the final project will be due and presented to class Friday, October 19th. Students will be allowed to go to the library to check out a fiction book that they would use for this book report. They have been instructed to choose a book that they are interested in and could read in approximately 2 weeks. Each student will be expected to have their completed project at school on October 19th. An excused absence from school on October 19th will allow the student to bring in and complete their project presentation on Monday, October 22nd. Any other late projects will be assessed a 10 point per day deduction on the final project grade. Parents and students please sign and detach the bottom of the next page (keep the directions at home or in your binder) and return it to your teacher by Wednesday, October 3rd. Students: Please begin planning for your main character project and follow these directions: 1. Read your fiction book (approved by your teacher), daily. 2. Think about the main character and how you imagine what they might look like. Pay close attention to the details you read in your book! (Think about how character traits and personality would influence the way your character looks and dresses). 3. Complete the “Who Are You” character trait form to accompany your character. This organizer will help you in writing a paragraph about your book character and their individual character traits. 4. When you have finished reading your book you are ready to write your narrative paragraph (MINIMUM of 5 sentences!) Your paragraph will be written from your character’s point of view and should include at least two of your weekly vocabulary words. Choices for Paragraph Topic Write a sequel to the book (written by your character) Describe an event from the story (written by your character) Write a personal response to the author (written by your character) 5. When you have finished reading your book and writing your narrative paragraph you are ready to begin your main character “doll”. Please get a pattern from your teacher. (This should be done by at least, Friday, October 12th, to give you plenty of time to complete your character). Remember: Only one pattern per student! If you lose yours, you must bring in a piece of poster board so that you may trace another pattern! 6. Collect any materials you need to dress your doll. (yarn, fabric, buttons, ribbons, construction paper, glitter, markers, paint, etc.) 7. Finish your main character doll by dressing it as close to the story’s description as possible. 8. Bring your narrative paragraph, character doll and the character trait form to school on Friday, October 19th, to present to the class. BE CREATIVE!! HAVE FUN!! I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE YOUR CHARACTERS!!! -------------------------------------------------I have read the requirements for my (my child’s) main character book report and understand that I (my child) will present both a character and character trait form to the class on Friday, October 19th!
