ROLE Senior Advisor Māori – Capability Development MANAGER Kaiwhakarite Matua TEAM Kaiwhakarite LOCATION Wellington JOB TYPE Contractor DURATION 6 months (January 2016 to June 2016) PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To help with the implementation of the Commission’s ‘Treaty Based Organisation’ (TBO) programme. The Board has signed off on a programme of work to build the effectiveness of the Commission’s Treaty and Indigenous Human Rights work programme. The intent of the TBO programme is to strengthen the effectiveness of the Commission in delivering to its obligations as a Treaty partner. This means ensuring the Commission is having more impact in advocating for and promoting of Māori human rights, in engaging with Māori and iwi stakeholders, and ensuring all staff understand their responsibilities and role in ensuring the Commission delivers a robust Treaty work programme. The focus of this role will be to support the Kaiwhakarite Matua in the management, co-ordination and delivery of the TBO programme. PURPOSE OF THE KAIWHAKARITE TEAM To provide expert advice and service to the Commission, and to work in partnership with the Chief Executive, managers and staff to work with Māori and iwi in the promotion and advocacy of the Commission’s treaty and indigenous human rights work programme, to grow an understanding of the human rights dimensions of the Treaty of Waitangi, to ensure positive human rights outcomes for Māori as indigenous people, and to ensure the incorporation of tīkanga and te reo Māori throughout the organisation.
