Section 4 Scope of Work M.D. Anderson Cancer Center wishes to engage a Recruiting firm for the purpose of identifying potential candidates for M.D. Anderson's Development Office. The strategic plan is to identify and recruit candidates over the course of the fiscal year, which ends on August 31, 2007. The positions that are identified include: Associate Director of Development: SUMMARY: Function: Assist the Senior Director for Development and other staff with developing a prospect strategy, day-to-day planning, and management of the portfolios. Reports and monitor progress. Scope: Assist with program planning, innovation, and operation exercising independent judgment and authority as required. Utilize strong interpersonal skills to communicate with a variety of institutional professionals, volunteers, prospects, and staff. Adjust to shifting institutional priorities regarding major gift and planned giving fund raising activities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Responsible for developing strategy and action plans and for monitoring progress on the timely fulfillment of the Plan’s objectives. 2. Assist with assignment of prospects to field staff and tracking progress toward acquiring gifts. 3. Assist in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities of regional fund raising staff. MARGINAL OR PERIODIC FUNCTIONS: May be called upon to perform other tasks as required. OTHER: Heavy travel required. Occasional evening and/or weekend hours are probable. Must be able to use computing equipment for general office use. Membership in the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), The Association of Healthcare Philanthropy (ARP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), or the National Society of Fundraising Executives (NSFRE) preferred. Preferred: A graduate level education in related field. EXPERIENCE: Required: Five years experience in institutional advancement with direct experience in strategic planning and marketing. Senior Associate Director: SUMMARY: Function: To provide high-caliber professional assistance in the broad spectrum of development with particular emphasis on major gifts. Scope: Performs cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects and donors. Will have a role in regional and special events. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Through mail, telephone and personal visits, will pursue the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospects particularly in the major gifts arena. Use clear, concise verbal communication on the phone and in person, when handling calls from donors, faculty and staff to resolve and answer questions. Ability to accurately ascertain information from donors regarding restriction/designation of their gifts. Use clear, concise written communication to compose and edit letters. Must be resourceful in researching varied donor contact information in order to maintain accurate records. Must review and evaluate materials for relevancy and accuracy. Complete donor follow-up in a timely manner. To work independently with minimal supervision; effectively and efficiently organize and prioritize workload to meet dynamic demands; communicate status of projects to appropriate staff members. Must have a comprehensive view of development operations. Section 4 MARGINAL OR PERIODIC FUNCTIONS: May be called upon to perform other tasks as required. Attend monthly meetings with Field Officers and management team to review prospect visits and solicitations. Professional and courteous interaction with donors as needed. SUPERVISION: Received: Directly supervised by the Director of Development. Given: May supervise Associate Director, Assistant Director, Development Specialist and/or secretarial support staff. EDUCATION: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, Business, Marketing, Education, Communications, Public Affairs, or related field. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in liberal arts plus attendance at professional association development/fund raising seminars. EXPERIENCE: Required: Seven years experience in private fund development, marketing, advertising, public/client relations, or closely related field. Preferred: Seven years experience in private fund development and experience in direct mail, telephone qualification of prospects, annual, capital, and planned giving. Section 4 Administrative Director, Development Office: SUMMARY: Function: Responsible for major gift fund-raising, with emphasis on major gifts. Scope: Upper level field staff position to cultivate and solicit major donors and prospects within designated regional area. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Manages a portfolio of approximately 150 donors who have the capacity to contribute a gift of $1,000,000 or more. Develops relationships with individuals, corporations and foundations, which ultimately result in the solicitation of gifts. Follows a program, in agreement with the supervisor, which includes specific and measurable targets related to contacts, personal visits, solicitations, stewardship activities made within each fiscal year. Works with regional team to fulfill comprehensive program to attain regional goals as they relate to the overall Development Office goals. Presents various major gift options and donor recognition vehicles available to potential major gift donors. Develop strategies to recruit new donors to fund Development Programs. REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate a high degree of initiative in a fast paced and high-pressured environment. Must have highly developed verbal and written communication skills. Responsible for handling a high volume of calls. Must be able to learn and operate a development software program and other resources to conduct preliminary prospect research and develop strategies for donors. Must be able to travel on all major forms of public and private conveyance, including planes, trains, taxis, and private automobiles. Must be able to assist President, faculty volunteers and donors with transportation to and from meetings and events. Requires analytical ability for establishing strategic plan goals and reporting on results. SUPERVISION: Received: Directly supervised by the Sr. Director for Development. Given: Professional and clerical staff as called upon for program purposes. EDUCATION: Required: Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts, Marketing, Business or related field. Preferred: Section 4 EXPERIENCE: Required: Eight years of experience in private fund development. Preferred: Experience in health care fund raising, especially with planned gift experience.
