News and Updates:
1. International Society of Obstetric Medicine
The International Society of Obstetric Medicine (ISOM) is up and running. The second
meeting is taking place in Vienna Austria Nov 14-17 2004 in conjunction with the
International Society for the Study of Hypertension in Pregnancy. The intent of this
organization is to provide an international forum for physicians involved in the care of
medical problems during pregnancy. The ISOM plans to have a meeting at least every 2
years and is meant to complement rather than replace the present regional obstetric
medicine societies that exist in Australasia, the UK, South Africa and North America.
Membership information will be available by the end of November at the ISOM website
www.isomnet.org or can be obtained now be contacting the ISOM treasurer, our own
Mathew Sermer or his secretary Niki Fotinos at 413-586-8411.
2. Membership fees
Membership for NASOM will now be separate from the annual meeting. Registration is
available on line at www.obmed.org or through contacting Erin Keely at
ekeely@ottawahospital.on.ca. The registration fees are $75 US for physicians and $50 US
for trainees and allied health care professionals.
3. Website
The Obstetric Medicine website at www.obmed.org is undergoing a major transformation
under the efforts of Lucia Larson and Raymond Powrie in Providence Rhode Island. Its
previous incarnation, built in 1999 was static and difficult to update, as was readily
apparent! However, we are in the progress of creating a whole new website with a fresh
new look in a much more readily updateable format.
Features will include a password protected access to membership information, a journal
watch and a whole new area for news and events.
Look to see the new website up and running by the end of this year. When it does go live,
all active members of NASOM will receive an email which will contain their password for
accessing the members-only section of the website. You can then go to the website to edit
your membership listing and select your preferences as to details about yourself you like
to make available to the membership.
