Credit Hours: Two Textbook: Anatomy and Physiology Laboratory Manual Eric Wise WCB/McGraw Hill Publishers 1998 Pictorial Anatomy of the Cat Gilbert Course Description: This laboratory course accompanies Biol 250. It includes an in-depth practical laboratory experience in the cardiovascular system of the cat and human, human hematology, endocrine, urinalysis, immunology, respiratory, digestive (including chemistry), and reproductive systems. Lab Objectives: 1. Demonstrate proper dissection techniques of the cat. Be ableto identify the major blood vessels and organs in the cat andhuman. 2. Identify the major structures of the sheep and human heart. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of basic hematology techniques toinclude analysis of blood and cellular components, hemoglobin,hematocrit, WBC, ABO blood grouping and Rh typing. 4. Perform and interpret basic cardiovascular and respiratoryfunction tests. 5. Perform and interpret a complete urinalysis. the Urinary System. Identify thestructures of 6. Demonstrate an understanding of laboratory proceduressupporting concepts in digestive physiology, metabolism,immunology and reproductive physiology. 7. Be able to identify selected tissues under the microscope. Attendance: You are expected to attend each session. Roll may be taken during any class session through out the term. A person's ability to incorporate this material is directly proportional to the amount of time spent in the lab. Examinations: There will be two non-comprehensive exams given during the semester. Any and all material presented in lab will be included on each exam. Each test will be worth 100 points. In addition to the examinations, there will be at least four additional assignments given out during lab. These assignments will be worth a minimum of 10 points each. Late lab assignments will not be accepted without prior approval from the instructor. Academic Dishonesty: "Don't risk your future." Any student observed cheating will be asked to leave class with the grade of "zero" being given for that exam. Further, all infractions will be dealt with according to Pierce College policy. Grading Scale: Course grades will be based on the total number of points accumulated.
