Mrs. Hibbard began with a review of how the state’s current economic situation has impacted aid to the district and the work of the Financial Planning Committee. Factors affecting the budget development, such as the District Mission and Beliefs, shared decision making, strategic planning, Athletic Action Committee, and the forum and survey information from the Financial Planning Committee were discussed. The three component parts; administrative, program, and capital were described. Mrs. Hibbard reviewed areas identified for reductions totaling $743,809, specifically the reductions of four teachers and one aide. A potential savings by sharing a technology position with Marathon, a staffing need in the fourth grade, and an addition of a literacy coach at TRA were explained. Suppositions of BOCES GED and Work Study placements and a potential of offering higher level French classes to Marathon via distance learning were reviewed. Mrs. Hibbard stated the proposed budget brings students back from out of district placements, maintains athletics and extra-curricular activities, supports the Coordinator of Special Services becoming an administrative position, maintains reasonable class size levels, supports struggling at-risk learners by maintaining AIS and instructional support teachers, and supports the district’s literacy initiative. The proposed $28,441,263 budget is a $20,204 or 0.07% increase over the current budget representing a $255,095 tax levy increase at 3.83%. New Business a.
