Professional Qualifications
I have full registration with the GMC. I have CCSTs in Old Age Psychiatry and
General Adult Psychiatry and accreditation in the sub-speciality of Liaison
Psychiatry (Psychiatry of the Medically Ill). I am approved under Section 12 of
the Mental Health Act as an Approved Clinician. I am also approved as an
SpR trainer in General Adult Psychiatry and Old Age Psychiatry.

Consultant Experience Including Current Work
I am currently a full-time consultant in old age psychiatry in Llandough
Hospital, Penarth, near Cardiff. I have responsibility for medical student
placements in psychiatry and I am the lead for clinical audit in the Mental
Health Directorate. I also take part in the general adult psychiatry Consultant
on call rota. I was the Regional Representative in Old Age Psychiatry for the
Welsh Division of the Royal College of Psychiatrists from November 2007 to
2011. Since April 2007 I have also run a weekly clinic in the Cardiff Traumatic
Stress Service assessing and treating patients with mainly complex Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder. I am also a Psychiatrist for the Cardiff Veterans
CMHT Programme. I continue to be involved in the Cochrane Database
Review of Psychological treatments for PTSD.
I was previously a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist for Independent
Community Living Ltd with responsibility for detained patients with borderline
learning disability and severe mental illness or Personality Disorder, including
Asperger's Syndrome. I developed a unit and service for older adults with
challenging behaviours. From Sept 99 to March 2001 I was a Consultant in
general adult psychiatry in East Glamorgan Hospital, near Pontypridd. I have
also provided a Consultant Psychiatric service to Central Stress Management
based in Devonshire Place, London since becoming a Consultant
Psychiatrist. I have many years experience in producing expert witness
reports for the Court and also for Employment Tribunals as well as producing
Psychiatric reports for Tribunals, the Coroners Court and I have given
evidence at a Public Inquiry

South Wales area following a systematic review of psychological treatments
in cancer patients. Established novel psychiatric clinic for cancer sufferers
based in Velindre Hospital.

patients.
(e) Collation/analysis of data of consultation-liaison referrals to the old age
psychiatry service over a six-month period (Aug 98-Jan 99) in South Gwent.
(f) Survey of medical, physical and surgical needs of patients in EMI wards in
Whitchurch Hospital with Dr Tahir and Dr Humayaun (2005) to inform
development of medical consultation service to EMI wards in Whitchurch
Hospital.
(g) Associate for the EU-funded TENTS-TP project for the dissemination of
evidence-based guidelines on psychosocial management and treatment
following traumatic incidents to European member states (2009-2011).

Current Legal Work
I am regularly instructed (for defence, for claimant and jointly instructed) to
produce psychiatric reports in numerous civil legal cases and employment
cases (D 29%, C 64%, J 7%), approximately 80 cases annually.
