Generic Position Description

The (ENTER SLE NAME ) relies upon advanced technologies to provide a platform for its educational and research activities. These include training simulators, audio-visual and information communication technology (ICT) (including video-conferencing) and clinical monitoring and equipment for training purposes. Smooth technical operations are vital to the day-to-day operation of the SLE.

The Simulation Technician will work as part of a team to develop and implement simulationbased inter-professional team training designed to enhance safety and quality in health care delivery. The key responsibilities of the Simulation Technician are to provide specialised

Technical Support Services and maintenance, quality assurance and improvement. The

Simulation Technician also educates and supports staff and instructors in the use of simulation, audio-visual and other information communication technology. From time to time, the Simulation Technician is also responsible for managing technology requirements of special projects.

Responsibilities/Duties

This position will be responsible for:

1.

Assisting with set up of simulation environment prior to education session

2.

Managing the operation of simulators and audiovisual equipment in training sessions

Providing support to other staff in terms of the technical aspects of operating simulation equipment.

Developing technical proficiency with all aspects of operation, maintenance support, trouble shooting and repair for all equipment.

Troubleshooting equipment failure.

6.

Repairing simulation equipment as per the manufacturer instructions and determine need for outside vs. internal repairs of equipment.

7.

Developing relationships with simulation equipment and other medical equipment vendors to gain support with services of simulation and technical equipment, including trouble shooting and systems problems and to ensure minimal downtime if equipment deficiencies arise.

8.

Creating sign-out sheets and other record keeping methods to track loaned equipment.

9.

Coordinating transport of simulation equipment as necessary.

10.

Overseeing scheduled maintenance of simulation equipment.

Selection Criteria

Specialist Expertise

1.

Science degree or tertiary qualification (Human Movement or Exercise Physiology or bio-medical science).

2.

Experience in a specialist technical position.

3.

Computer skills

Knowledge and Skills

1.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, including the ability to problem solve, be resourceful, flexible and to plan, implement and selfevaluate and to be self-motivated.
