ROYAL COLLEGE OF ART MA SHOW Thursday 3rd June 2010 … before the ice cream melts What is always reassuring with brochures of shows is that they are slightly out of date. This cannot be helped. The publication may be weeks/month or so before the show and the work may still be developing, or the work has not been photographed in situ. As was rather recent at the the case here – another reason to visit actual work than rely on catalogues. Also, postcards may have more images on them. I only mention work that interested me time [and it was hot..] – so be it. The measurements are only approximate cos I was either using my own height of 5’7 as a guide or pacing out my size 7 feet, but I have converted, for your benefit. If you gonna do big then do big like:Claire Bayliss - A composition of 15 pieces of litho making up a total of [3.5m by 1.8m]. Cordelia Cembrowicz Impressive large silkscreen print. Poppy Jones – 3.5m x 3.6 colour photocopy Jon Mayers - Very Large Silkscreens, Olenna Mokliak 4 x 1m x 1.5m etchings and aquatints Gonna do small then do many – David Orme - Lots of Lino prints framed and unframed, some on Chinese paper which was floating from the wall, attached only at the top Sculptural/Installations Anna Lomax – 3 TV screens showing videos, glitter on the floor, love of plastic, large gold draped soft sculplture which filled with air and floats across the piece James Winter A corner sculptural piece, not sure what the materials were and I wanted to touch it to find out if it was metal/plastic or wood Helen Murgatroyd Installation – print room in her kitchen This was my favourite. I talked to the artist. I wanted to steal one of the simple prints hanging on the make-shift pulley/washing line contraption. I wanted to be in that kitchen area making those prints and enjoying every minute of it. Ho hum. Rumour has it that there is a piece here which cost £10,000 to make. After a little research on Tinternet – my choice is Sun Ju Lee [four pieces on Monofilament surfaces] Did I win? Sue Williams 3-6-2010
