RESOLUTION NO. 60-2015
INTRODUCED BY: MAYOR ANN MARIE DONEGAN AND COUNCIL AS A WHOLE
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING NATIONAL SCHOOL BUS
SAFETY WEEK, OCTOBER 19 THROUGH OCTOBER 23, 2015,
AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, according to state and national data, yellow school buses are the safest
possible vehicles for transportation for children whose homes are far from school; and
WHEREAS, the local community is committed to providing a safe, crash-free
environment for the public and private school bus riders in Olmsted Falls who travel daily on our
roadways; and
WHEREAS, the exemplary safety performance exhibited each day by our school bus
operators ensures the highest level of safety for other motorists and student riders; and
WHEREAS, local organizations are encouraged to support student and traffic safety
activities associated with National School Bus Safety Week; and
WHEREAS, motorists must remember to stop, as required by law, when a school bus
has stopped with its stop arms extended and red lights flashing; and
WHEREAS, motorists should continue to be reminded about their role in ensuring the
safety of children who are walking, bicycling and getting off and on school buses; and
WHEREAS, during National School Bus Safety Week, October 19 through 23, 2015,
everyone is reminded to keep a watchful eye out for students going to and from school, and to
take extra precautions around students and school buses. Now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OLMSTED FALLS,
CUYAHOGA COUNTY, STATE OF OHIO, THAT:
SECTION 1. The Council hereby supports the observance of National School Bus
Safety Week, October 19 through October 23, 2015, as an opportunity to support the purposes
and practices of school bus safety, and it encourages all teachers, parents, students and citizens to
participate.
SECTION 2. This Council notes the Olmsted Falls City School District will host the
Ohio State Highway Patrol on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, to participate in and observe the
transportation of our most precious cargo while monitoring school bus stops and school driving
zones.

SECTION 3. The Clerk of Council is hereby directed to forward a true and accurate
copy of this Resolution to the Olmsted Falls Board of Education, 26937 Bagley Road, Olmsted
Falls, Ohio 44138.
SECTION 4. The Council finds and determines that all formal actions of this Council
relating to the adoption of this Resolution have been taken at open meetings of this Council; and
that deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in such formal action, took
place in meetings open to the public, in compliance with all statutory requirements including the
requirements of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code.
SECTION 5. This Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure necessary
for the immediate preservation of the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the City of
Olmsted Falls for the reason that this expression of support is necessary due to the observance
taking place beginning October 19, 2015. Therefore this Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon the affirmative vote of not less than five (5) members elected to Council and signature by
the Mayor or otherwise at the earliest time allowed by law.
