Catalog Description:
Geared toward the child’s needs for artistic expression. It is a studio/discussion
course providing opportunities for the handling of materials and for the evaluation
of children’s works at various stages of physical and mental development. A
course fee is required.

Create Studio and Discipline Based Art Education lesson plans to teach art in
the elementary school
Employ a variety of materials and techniques including clay, tempera, acrylic
paint, graphite, printmaking, drawing, sculpture, painting, puppet making and
jewelry to create art work
Differentiate different developmental styles of child art
Planned Sequence of Learning Activities

3. Design theory and analysis-student critique of found imagery or
advertisement.
4. Art history mini-lecture and student application of DBAE structure.
5. Student Journal Drawings and group critique.
6. Demonstration acrylic painting and student painting project, pointillism.
7. Clay demonstration and student production of ceramic work.
8. Printmaking and jewelry demonstration and student production.
9. Puppet making and student play production.
10. Field observation of art classroom.
11. Student teaching of unit to volunteer children and follow-up analysis.

Assessment of student learning outcomes for the course, as required by AP 765, is
part of regular curriculum maintenance and/or improvement. The specific plan
