Community: New Hampstead High School, located in western Chatham County, is a part of the Savannah-Chatham County
Public School System whose district encompasses the city of Savannah and its outlying areas. Our doors opened to
students on August 27, 2012. Savannah is a small urban port city. The local economy is supported by port businesses,
pulp and paper industries, an executive jet company, other support businesses, and the tourism industry. The population of
Chatham County is approximately 230,000 residents.
School Information: New Hampstead High School serves approximately 1350 students.

Advanced Placement (AP) Program: New Hampstead High School offer a variety of AP courses this school year including
Art, English Language, English Literature, Calculus, Environmental Science, Psychology and US History. Additional
points (5) are added to the final grade for AP courses.
Honors Coursework: Available in English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. These courses are designated as
“Honors” on the transcript. Additional points (3) are added to the final grade for Honors courses.
Bonus Points and the HOPE Scholarship: Additional points (3) are added to the final passing semester grade for
Honors courses and (5) for AP courses. “Bonus Points” from AP and Honors classes are removed from a student’s final
grade prior to HOPE GPA calculations.
Grading Scale: Scholarship Conversion Scale = 90-100 A, 80-89 B, 70-79 C, Below 70 Failing
Class Rank: Rank is computed at the end of the junior year and at the end of the first semester of the senior year. Class
rank is determined by the numerical average of all grades for all subjects; rank is cumulative for all four years. Honors and
AP grades receive three and five honors points respectively in the computation.
Transcript Code for Move On When Ready Coursework: DE indicates MOWR courses through the local college.
Graduation Requirements:
■ 20 hours of Community Service is a requirement for graduation.
■ Students entering 2008-2009 and later will no longer designate College or Tech Prep endorsement. There is only
one diploma but students must choose between the College Prep Pathway or CTAE Pathway.
