Friends and Family AWWA
This is the story of Flat Stanley’s trip to Hawaii.
My 5-year-old daughter recently had a pre-K school project that required her to color, print and mail a
story book character (AKA Adventures of Flat Stanley) to far away family members in another state that
would take pictures of Stanley on vacation then return the pictures back to her school. There was just
one problem, we don’t have any family members that live anywhere exciting outside of Oklahoma.
My wife loves Hawaii so naturally I went to the Hawaii AWWA Section website, sent an e-mail to the
chair of the Hawaii Section, and explained to Timothy Yum Lee that I was with the Southwest Section
and would like to send him Stanley. He most graciously accepted and Stanley was off to Hawaii. The
opportunities of being a member of AWWA run deeper than conferences, memos, and protecting public
health through safe drinking water ‘’BETTER WATER BETTER WORLD.’’ There is also a place for your
family. My family and I got to know Timothy and his family through Flat Stanley’s adventures & AWWA.
