Flat Stanley goes on Spring Break Curriculum Expectations: Writing and Composition: Writing for a specific purpose Penmanship Spelling (of high frequency words, only) Writing to record ideas and reflections Speaking/Audiences/Oral Grammar: Presenting to an audience Use complete sentences Stay on topic Visual Communication: Creativity Detailed drawing with many colors Social Studies: Learning about a variety communities Outcomes and Assessment: Students will be asked to write at least 2 sentences a day, on 3 days, describing Flat Stanley’s adventures. Students will draw a picture of each adventure. The picture will match the writing. Students will use appropriate kindergarten writing conventions (spaces between words, lower case letters, upper case letters at the beginning of the sentence, period at the end of the sentence, correct spelling of high frequency words). Students will show Flat Stanley on a variety of adventures in the community and/or vacation destination. Students will speak appropriately to their audience, ask and answer relevant questions. Students will be graded on each part of their Flat Stanley Adventure. Student Self-Check I used a pencil for writing. I used at least 5 different colors for my pictures. My pictures matched my writing. I left spaces between words. I used lower case letters. I began each sentence with an upper case letter and ended each sentence with a period. I wrote in my journal, about Flat Stanley’s adventures, at least 3 times. I wrote at least 2 sentences each time I wrote about Flat Stanley.
