Areas of Research and Teaching Interests
Recent Research Projects:
1. Perspectives and methodological principles of evaluating academic contributions.
2. Developments and latest advancements of new economic sociology
Focused on relationships and differences between the “new” economic sociology and the “old”
economic sociology; probe using the theory.
3. Developments of Chinese economy and society, especially in Northeast of China, with the
scholarly pursuit of interpreting these developments from economic sociology perspectives.

1996-1998 The problem of comprehensive in cognition, sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of

1999-2000 Life conditions and reemployment of laid-off workers in state-owned enterprises,
sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Education.
1999-2000 The processes of job searches and the roles of social networks in Changchun City, in
collaboration with and sponsored by Professor Yanjie Bian, Hong Kong University of
Science and Technology.
2000-2002 Theories and methods of economic sociology, sponsored by the Chinese Social Science
Foundation.
2000-2003 Social mobility patterns in the transformation of state-owned enterprises in northeast
China, sponsored by the Ford Foundation (Beijing office); and in collaboration with
Professor Yanjie Bian, funded by Hong Kong Universities Grant Committee.
