Historian Project Update 10/11/11 Goals for this project: Conduct research with both print and non-print resources Determine reliable vs. non-reliable sources Summarize and paraphrase to avoid plagiarism Learn note-taking skills Write a research paper Cite sources Create a works cited page Work cooperatively in a group 1. Timeline (one per group) - Make a timeline of important events for your decade At least 10 major/significant events throughout the decade Rubric for timeline: 10 pts. per event- (5 pts. for selecting a major/significant event, 2 pts. for correct date, 2 pts. for correct location on timeline, and 1 pt. for spelling, grammar, and punctuation) Bonus: five photos on your timeline (1 bonus pt. per picture up to 5 pts.) 2. Presentation (one per group) - Your group is responsible for teaching the class about your decade. Create a presentation in which you share the information you have researched. Title Slide- Include your names, date of presentation, core #, and decade Major Events-Include a description of at least five major events from your decade Photos-At least three photos from your decade. These can be the major events you included or different events from your decade. Pop Culture-What was popular? Share fun facts you learned. Include information from at least two other categories: - Government- president and vice presidents; amendments, laws, and acts passed - Technology and/or inventions - Weather disasters - Economy - Wars and/or conflicts Works Cited- Cite the sources you used Rubric for presentation: - Title Slide- 11 pts. - Major Events- 10 pts. per event (5 pts. for selecting a major/significant event, 2 pts. for correct date, 2 pts. for correct location on timeline, and 1 pt. for spelling, grammar, and punctuation) - Photos- 3 pts. per photo - Pop Culture- 10 pts. - Include information from at least two other categories- 5 pts. per category - Works Cited- 10 pts. for citations in correct format *You will complete a group and self-assessment after your presentation, which will also count as a grade. 3. Blogging- Post at least three comments in the blog. The blog is not part of NoodleTools. You can access the blog through my webpage. Go to http://tmspcs.sharpschool.com/academics/grade_6/angela_szakasits/ and choose the Decades Blogs (on the left). Click your decade, scroll to the bottom, and post your comment. Make sure you enter the security measure correctly. Once you have made an initial post in your decade’s blog, you may comment in the blogs for other decades.
