Each member of assessment commission evaluates innovation proposal according to all listed criteria stated in the Article 8 of the Rulebook on granting recognitions to GLOBAL HEMP INNOVATIONS. 2. The individual criteria are evaluated according to the level of perfecting criterion with the assessment between 5 and 10. Evaluation scales are the basis for the assessment. The final assessment of individual evaluation set is dependent also on the integrity of all listed facts. 2.1. Inventiveness Originality To what extent an innovation exceeds/withdraws from the well-known condition within the company, in the state or in the world or from the existing business development guidelines. What is the usage value of the innovation for end-users in comparison with the existing/so far existing solutions, own or those of the competition. ADDITIONAL ASSESSMENT GUIDELINES FOR THE GLOBAL HEMP TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION COMPETITION HEMP MATERIALS, HEMP PRODUCTS, HEMP TECHNOLOGY, CANNABIS MEDICINE PRODUCTS 1. Intellectual property protection, guidelines: In general we can state a number of options that serve to protect our business secrets, specific knowledge (know-how), ideas, technological solutions, products, services: · intellectual property protection (patents, models, trademarks etc.), · business secret respective secrecy, · to be a step ahead of others (first to market). By means of protection of industrial property and copyrights, theft and imitation may be prevented to some extent. According to the nature of the product, type and precision of the protection, competition ability to avoid security, technological innovations that enable different and simpler solutions it depends to which extent the intellectual property will be protected. Unfortunately it is also possible to avoid and to copy with impunity very good quality protection. Do not rely merely on one patent, because it will not bring you a long-term survival even in the case of an excellent protection. Today's dynamic of global market development requires besides the intellectual property protection above all lasting innovation - not just of a product, service and process, but also of leadership, business and marketing models. In continuation some assessment guidelines are mentioned. Common evaluation is based on a reasonable evaluation of singular partial evaluations (in case of several types of protection) and complete evaluation of combinations of different types of protections. PATENTS According to the phase of obtaining a patent abroad, evaluations from 9 to 10 - obtained patent (abroad) = evaluation 10 - test performed by competent organization = evaluation 9 - in the process of obtaining a patent abroad = evaluation 9 According to the phase of obtaining a patent in Slovenia, evaluations from 7 to 8 - obtained patent (in Slovenia) = evaluation 8 - in the process of obtaining a patent in Slovenia = evaluation 7 BUSINESS SECRET, FIRST TO MARKET Business secret; evaluations from 8 to 10 A frequent way to protect the invention or novelty is to keep it simply as a secret. Novelty can be hidden within the new product and can not be noticed from the product. Example 1: Coca-Cola Apparently only a handful of people are acquainted with the recipe for Coca-Cola. Since the recipe based upon beverage may not be properly copied, the protection WORLD HEMP CONGRESS – Slovenia 2015 Hemp for new global challenge - Slovenia, a diversity to discover http://www.world-hemp-congress.com // info@world-hemp-congress.com All project rights reserved 8 WHC 15 INSTRUCTIONS FOR ASSESSMENT 8 GLOBAL HEMP TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION could do more harm than good, since in this case a formula would be protected, but publicly known. A registered trademark under the name "Coca-Cola" represents the additional protection of mentioned beverage and protection of all known form of the bottle. Besides the beverage both represent an important part of marketing advantages. Example 2: Production of high quality steel The company has found the way how to produce the same quality of steel as the competition, but with substantially lower expenses. Since it was about the improvement of manufacturing process, it was decided not to patent the solution but rather to protect the process itself carefully. So it has avoided that unauthorized - either employees or visitors could have gained access to the important information. Example 3: Miniature refrigerators Slovenian company, leading in the field of production of miniature refrigerators (component in the defense industry) has decided to protect its own product as a business secret, because otherwise their secret knowledge would be revealed with the patent, thereby they could have lost their competitive advantage. First to market (leading innovative strategy); evaluations from 8 to 10 Even the best kept secrets may be subject to disclosure - either due to the "holes" in the security of information systems or due to human factor. The more the information is valuable, the more important is the novelty, the more the competition is trying to obtain it. Example 4: Internet (industrial/economic) espionage The internet is becoming a new battleground between the world and China, since the concern about Chinese industrial espionage through various types of computer viruses is increasing. At least one Trojan virus that has infected PCs by stealing files, the analysts associated with the Chinese servers. In the security company Lurhq they have established through the return engineering a clear connection of the worm Myfip with China. Analysts believe that the worm is likely a tool for espionage in hightech companies. There are also other forms of marketing products, where the key idea of business success is difficult to be well-protected. Example 5: Dental X-ray WORLD HEMP CONGRESS – Slovenia 2015 Hemp for new global challenge - Slovenia, a diversity to discover http://www.world-hemp-congress.com // info@world-hemp-congress.com All project rights reserved 9 WHC 15 INSTRUCTIONS FOR ASSESSMENT 9 GLOBAL HEMP TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION Principle of operation (ray discovering) and idea of dental x-ray are not possible to be safeguarded, but actual realization can be protected. The one who came up with the idea of the mentioned device has no advantage by itself, unless the concrete realization solution of the particular parts (e.g. with a patent) was protected. In this way it makes sense to build a basic realization lastingly and to maintain a market share with the system of lasting novelties. Example 6: iPod A similar example is the Apple’s product Ipod which lastingly sets new standards for product innovation. Being ahead of the competition, on the basis of lasting, radical innovations is without doubt one of the key characteristics of companies with leading innovation strategy. One of the indicators is the number of patents, while others are permanent innovations - not just of a product, service and process, but also leadership, business and marketing models. MODEL According to the phase of obtaining a model abroad, evaluations from 8 to 9 - obtained model protection (abroad) = evaluation 9 - in the process of obtaining a model protection abroad = evaluation 8 According to the phase of obtaining a model in Slovenia, evaluations from 6 to 7 - obtained model protection (in Slovenia) = evaluation 7 - in the process of obtaining a model protection in Slovenia = evaluation 6 TRADE-MARK Trademark registered in Slovenia, evaluation from 6 to 8 WORLD HEMP CONGRESS – Slovenia 2015 Hemp for new global challenge - Slovenia, a diversity to discover http://www.world-hemp-congress.com // info@world-hemp-congress.com All project rights reserved 10 WHC 15 INSTRUCTIONS FOR ASSESSMENT 10 GLOBAL HEMP TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION Evaluation depends on the quality and content of the service / product (innovation) Trademark registered outside Slovenia, evaluation from 7 to 9 Evaluation depends on the quality and content of the service/product (innovation) The economic results – achieved and expected Both criteria are assessed as a single criterion, the assessment is common. Clearly measurable, verifiable, properly reasoned arguments have a significantly greater weight. For example: Even the most promising, but poorly argued forecast for the next year has a very little weight in the overall assessment.
