Woodland ~Woodland Rd~ Cemetery Visited by Members of Grave Site Survey Task Force (GSSTF) Under the auspices of Isle of Wight County Historical Society (IOWCHS) March 24, 2004 This cemetery is adjacent to the Woodland United Methodist Church (located at the intersection of Orbit Rd and Woodland Rd) and is well maintained although a few tombstones are tilted slightly while others appear to have been jostled from their original locations, possibly due to contact from lawnmowers. GSSTF members were careful not to disturb tombstones or other artifacts. In some cases, due to stone erosion, a combination of shaving cream and water was employed to highlight and make legible the inscriptions … afterwards; a clean water spray was used to remove any residue. Figure 2 depicts the cemetery layout … the section letters referred to in the table below were arbitrarily assigned by GSSTF members to ensure that no tombstones were omitted. Any wording between the, “[ ]” marks are explanatory comments and are not inscribed on the tombstone, i.e., the notation, “[fs]” indicates an inscription on a footstone at the grave.
