RABBITS, CHICKENS, DUCKS, TURKEYS, CATS, DOGS & GOATS
1. All members must be enrolled through the Extension office by March 1, 2011 in
the 4-H program. Please note that some project enrollment deadlines are earlier.
In these instances, project enrollment deadlines become program enrollment
deadlines.
2. All entries must be made in person at the county Extension office by Thursday,
June 30, 2011 before 4:30 p.m.
3. All exhibits must be in place and ready to be judged by the time of the show.
4. Precautions will be taken to prevent loss or injury, but the management will not be
responsible if they occur. Exhibitors must bring their own watering cups and feed.
5. Exhibits will be released when the show is completed.
6. All entries in this Department are subject to General Rules. (Read these rules
carefully).
7. Each exhibitor must show their own entries.
8. Birds must be hatched after September 1 of the current 4-H year. Birds older than
that as determined by the judge will be eliminated from the show.
RABBITS
Tuesday, Aug 2 – 7:30 a.m.

1. All rabbits will need to have a tattoo in the left ear in order to be shown. Any 4H’er not having their animals tattooed will need to attend a special tattooing day.
The rabbit committee will administer tattooing procedures at that time a
couple weeks before the Logan County Fair. Consult your 4-H newsletter for
more details as they are arranged. Consult your rabbit superintendents if you do
not know what breed of rabbit you have.
2. Each exhibitor is limited to two breeds and two entries per class in that breed,
except classes Y1 and Y2 may be of any breeds or crosses, but still two entries
per class.
3. The 4-H Rabbit Show is NOT a sanctioned American Rabbit Breeders
Association Show. The ARB Rules will be abided at the judge’s discretion.

4. If the Florida White, California, or All Other Breeds Rabbit would win the
Champion Rabbit Trophy, then the Reserve Champion of that breed would be
eligible to show for the Reserve Champion Rabbit Trophy.
5. If the same exhibitor wins both Champion and Reserve Champion Meat Pens, a
third place meat pen must be selected to sell in the 4-H Auction in place of the
Reserve Meat Pen. Other sale rules apply.

CHICKENS
Meat Pen Weigh-In – 7:45 a.m.

1. All birds must be hatched after September 1, 2010. At Judge’s discretion older
aged birds will be disqualified.
2. Exhibitor is limited to two breed groupings (e.g. All American & Asiatic) and two
entries per class. Class entries may be of different breeds in the same breed
grouping.
3. The American Standard of Perfection will be the guide for judging the breed type
classes with utility also being emphasized.
4. All breed groupings shall consist of one cockerel and two pullets, may be shown
as singles.
5. Broiler-fryer and Roaster market pens shall consist of three cockerels or three
pullets. Broiler-fryers will need to weigh under 4 pounds. Roasters will need to
weigh over 4 pounds.
6. All meat pens will be weighed before the start of show. Scales will be provided.

DOGS

All dogs must have health certificates to show. This should be an “official
health certificate for dogs & cats” (which must be issued within 30 days of
showdate) from your veterinarian. Must have vaccination papers for
Distemper, Hepatitus, Lepto, Parinfluenza, Rabies and Parvo Virus.
4-H’er may exhibit in all classes but with a different animal in each class, except
for dog used in Showmanship Class.
X-190 Showmanship – exhibitor to be judged on handling skill, knowledge of breed standards
of their dog, dog show terminology, and elementary dog anatomy. Judge has the right to
question exhibitors in these areas and the right to excuse from further competition dogs
in heat, out of control, etc. Dogs will be judged on cleanliness, general health and
grooming. Sign up for Showmanship will be at Dog Show on show day! (No
premiums will be paid; trophy will be donated to Grand Champion Showman, and top
two showmen may go to State Fair in Showmanship class. The junior showman will
move up to senior showmanship and the senior showmanship may be won by the 4-H’er
only once.)`

Dog Care Class – This class is for 4-H’er who would like to bring their dog to the show.
Be prepared to answer questions regarding the general care of your dog. If you choose
to enter Dog Care and Obedience classes – you may not enter both with the same dog.
CANNOT use same dog for two different 4-H exhibitors!
(For all Obedience Training – If planning to participate in the 4-H Dog show, the 4-Her must
attend a dog obedience training school or have a certificate from a private instructor.) Must
complete Long Sit & Long Down in Graduate Beginner Class & above to qualify. ALL LONG

Read General Rules & Regulations for both Open & 4-H Livestock (see p. 45-47).

Every goat must be shown with a collar. They should also be secured properly during
show. Entries must be on the grounds by 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug 2 and ready for
judging at 2:00 p.m.
3.
Exhibitor must have owned and cared for animal since June 1, 2011.
4.
All animals must be debudded except for pygmy goats and meat goats.
5.
Allow 6 classes and specify maximum of 8 animals with maximum of 2 animals per class
in individual classes and 1 entry per exhibitor in Mother-Offspring class. Maximum of
two Meat Goat Wethers may be exhibited (regardless of weight class)

If wether is to be shown at IL State Fair, it must be tattooed before May 15 with
official tattoo. Contact local Extension office for tattooing.
7. Order of events – follow 4-H show book. Includes from YG1 – YG13.
Championship will follow respective classes.
8. Champion Wether is able to sell at 4-H auction.
9. A goat may only be shown in one class except mother/offspring, and last year’s
scramble goat.
10. Meat Goat Wethers will be weighed in at 1 pm and then split into classes by
superintendent based on weight after weigh-in is completed. No more than two
meat goat wethers may be entered.
11. Health Paper check is at 1:30 pm of show day or prior to Goat Show.
12. Goats must be on grounds by 1:30 p.m. of show day!
