Position Announcement: WCELI Clinical Services Director Posted December 10, 2007 Mission The mission of Open Arms Perinatal Services is to provide services that support, educate, respect, honor, and empower women in need and their families throughout the childbearing year. Organizational Information Open Arms embraces a world that cherishes birthing women, their babies, families and communities. Open Arms was founded in 1997 by a group of women from the board of the Pacific Association for Labor Support (PALS), a doula trade organization, who were committed to ensuring that all women have access to the support they need during pregnancy and birth. In the ten years since its founding, Open Arms has lived this dream by providing birth doula services to low income women throughout Washington State and developing community-based, outreach doula programs to provide comprehensive care and services to women throughout their pregnancy and postpartum period. In addition, Open Arms provides scholarships for low-income women to become trained as doulas, and collaborates with PALS on the Pathways to Births apprenticeship program. Open Arms currently supports one Community Outreach Doula Project to bring outreach doula care to the tribes of Southwest Washington. Open Arms also is part of the planning group for the White Center Early Learning Initiative (WCELI), a demonstration community of Thrive by Five. Both doula care and outreach doula care are endorsed by WCELI as an important part of helping children and families thrive.
