Purpose
This unit standard is for people who work, or intend to work, in
the heating, ventilation and air conditioning sector of the
engineering industry. People credited with this unit standard
are able to: interpret a heating, ventilation or air conditioning
contract and its conditions and terms; take measurements off
plans or documents to produce a quantities schedule and
prepare a pricing schedule; calculate rates, obtain quotes
(including sub tenderers); price a contract; and prepare a
tender for submission.

Explanatory notes
1
Mechanical services means any of the heating and ventilation systems specified in
the titles of these unit standards.

Knowledge of the characteristics of componentry and drafting of all heating,
ventilation and air conditioning plant and services is recommended. Knowledge of
the standard NZS 4202 is also recommended.

Contract documents include any documents providing details and specifications of a
heating, ventilation, air conditioning system or mechanical service to be installed, and
requesting the submission of a tender for that installation.

Outcome 1
Take measurements from contract documents.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Contract heating, ventilation, air conditioning system or mechanical service
installation requirements are qualified and quantified in accordance with
company policies and procedures on quantity scheduling.

2.1
Pipe and duct lengths and areas are taken off and listed for pricing in
accordance with company policies and procedures on quantity scheduling.
2.2
Equipment and components are detailed and listed for pricing in accordance
with company policies and procedures on quantity scheduling.
2.3
Schedule of quantities contains preliminary and general items, and provisional,
net and contingency items in accordance with company policies and procedures
on quantity scheduling.
2.4
Schedule of quantities complies with company policies and procedures on
quantity scheduling.
Outcome 3
Price and prepare tender for submission.
Evidence requirements
3.1
Contract information and conditions sent to suppliers and subcontractors match
job requirements.
3.2
Schedule of quantities contains unit rates, extensions and totals in accordance
with company policies and procedures on quantity scheduling.
3.3
Profit margin, contingency and selling prices established meet company
guidelines.
3.4
Tender document complies with company guidelines or policy.

Please note
Providers must be granted consent to assess against standards (accredited) by NZQA, or
an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can
report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading
to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess against standards by
NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.
Providers and Industry Training Organisations, which have been granted consent and
which are assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that
applies to those standards.
