People credited with this unit standard are able to, for small
buildings: assemble quantity surveying documentation relevant to
specific trade sections, and measure schedules of quantities for
specific trade sections from trade section documentation.

Explanatory notes
1
Definitions
Industry standards include New Zealand standards relevant to quantity surveying,
and also enterprise and organisational standards.
Small buildings are small scale, light weight buildings, generally of non-specific
design, and of domestic scale with lightweight framing and/or concrete or concrete
masonry construction.
Trade sections are a breakdown of individual trades involved in a building project,
outlining their input into the construction of a building.

Measuring at this level relates to specific trade sections that relate to small buildings. It
does not relate to such areas as services, elaborate finishes, or civil engineering.

Documents related to selected trade sections include drawings and specifications.

organisation/s involved; the ethical codes of relevant professional bodies; and any
relevant legislative and/or regulatory requirements.

Outcomes and evidence requirements
Outcome 1
Assemble quantity surveying documentation relevant to specific trade sections for small
buildings.
Evidence requirements
1.1
Documentation covering construction related to the specific trade sections is
identified, assembled, and integrated, ready for schedule of quantity
preparation.
Range
1.2
excavation, concrete work, reinforcing steel, brickwork, blockwork,
metal windows and doors, carpentry, joinery, roofing, plasterboard
linings, floor coverings, glazing.
Discrepancies in assembled documents are identified, and procedures are
implemented to correct them.
Outcome 2
Measure schedules of quantities for specific trade sections for small buildings from trade
section documentation.
Evidence requirements
2.1
Quantities of items required are checked against documentation in accordance
with current industry standards.
2.2
Complete schedules of quantities for specific trade sections are measured,
compiled and checked in accordance with current industry standards.
