The U13 girls finals were played in beautiful sunshine and in division 3 Milltown overcame
Suncroft in Sarsfields on Saturday (5th November 2011).
Milltown's opening point came from a Lara Curran free, Suncroft's Anna O Modhrain aided by
Aishling Dooley put pressure on Milltown but failed to beat their backs Aimee O Neill, Danielle
Owens and Lisa Byrne and when Hannah Brophy won the ball in mid field passed it to Lara
Curran who in turn found Lisa Murphy who buried it into the back of the net, Milltown kept up
the pressure and were rewarded with a point when Rebecca Ryan linked with Lara Curran who
again slotted the ball over the bar, Hannah Brophy won the kick out and moving forward got her
name on the score board with a point. Suncroft's goalkeeper Marie Murphy was forced to pull off
a good save but Anne Sweeney won the ball out field and again liked with her teams forwards of
Lisa Murphy and Lara Curran with Curran finishing with a goal this time giving her side a
comfortable lead of 2-3 to no score at the interval.
Suncroft made a few positional changes and were not ready to give up just yet, the hard
working Nicole Dooley, Shannon Collopy and Abby Poole eventually got their side off the mark
when strong running Anna O Modhrain broke the Milltown defence forcing goalkeeper Cliodhna
Malone to pull off a great save having to divert the ball over the it over the bar, with her side off
the mark Carol Kenny showed her strength by running through the Milltown defence this time
beating the goalkeeper to bring Suncroft right back into the game. Milltown's hunger for victory
came to the fore however with Lisa Murphy adding her second point followed by a well deserved
point from Mary Hamilton who had worked selflessly throughout the game, the final score came
when Lara Curran converted a free in the final minutes.
