No: Issue: Page: NUR/ICS/J 004 4 1 of 3 JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: SENIOR INTERPRETER RESPONSIBLE FOR: Assistance in Management of all Interpreters and Clerks ACCOUNTABLE TO: Chief of Interpreters and Clerks/Nursing Director CO-ORDINATION: With Department Heads & Supervisors of all Relevant Departments JOB DESCRIPTION: 1.0 JOB SUMMARY: Key areas of responsibility will include: 2.0 1.1 Interpret and translate assigned verbal conversations, meetings and medical documents from Arabic to English and vice versa, observing appropriate interpretation/translation techniques. Carries out clerical duties within the hospital unit. 1.2 Assist in the management and responsibility of all Interpreters and Clerks across the Programme. 1.3 Assist in the management of Database for Interpreters and Clerks, ensuring the overall requirements of the hospital are met. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 2.1 Assist in the management through the coordination with the Chief of Interpreters and Clerks. 2.2 Maintain an effective two way communication system with Chief of Interpreters and Clerks, relevant Heads of Departments and Supervisor in order. 2.3 Make constant rounds in all relevant Hospital Departments in order to ensure the optimal work performance and resolve any issues. 2.4 Assist in preparing and managing the Monthly Roster to ensure cover of all Departments, following up the Roster to meet changing departmental needs. No: Issue: Page: NUR/ICS/J 004 4 2 of 3 SENIOR INTERPRETER JOB DESCRIPTION: (Cont’d.) 3.0 2.5 Assist in monitoring and controlling of working hours making sure each employee is completing the required hours and authorized the timesheets after being signed by the employee and Head of Department. 2.6 Assist in assigning and transferring Interpreters and Clerks to and from different hospital departments as needed due to their performance, ability, to ensure having an appropriate level of training across the hospital, and to cover arising shortages in different areas. 2.7 Assist in formulating and delivering Orientation and Training Programs for new Interpreters and Clerks. Assign them to departments according to ability and follow up their performance closely during their probationary period. 2.8 Reporting to the Chief of Interpreters and Clerks of negligence of both interpreters and Clerks in conjunction with the relevant Heads of Department. 2.9 Assist in preparing development plans and projects in order to improve the level of performance of the employee, and the service in general, advise and update Director of Nursing and Director of Human Resources of relevant issues and outcomes. 2.10 Take an active role in developing and operating the Department Quality Management System. This will include the production of regular Quality Monitoring Information and Audits as appropriate. HOURS OF WORK: According to the regular duty hours followed in the Programme. 4.0 REQUIREMENTS: The post holder should fulfil the following qualifications and experience. 4.1 Qualification and Experience: Appropriate Bachelor Degree from a recognized university. Knowledgeable of the nature and requirements of both the Interpreter and the Clerk Job and competent in them. Experienced and skilled in using computers.
