Request for Proposal Terms of Reference to Conduct Detailed Limnology (Zooplankton) Survey at the Priority Sites of Indus for All Programme 1. Project Background The socio-economic and ecological significance of the Indus Ecoregion led WWF-Pakistan (WWF-P) to formulate a “50 years Vision of the Indus Ecoregion Conservation Programme”. Four of the fifteen priority sites identified in the Vision document are already being addressed by a 2006-2012 action programme titled “Indus for All Programme”. The Programme aims to improve livelihoods through enhanced natural resource management (NRM) at a Keti Bunder (coastal ecosystem), Keenjhar Lake (freshwater ecosystem), Pai Forest (forest ecosystem) and Chotiari Reservoir (desert-freshwater interface). This first phase is funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN). In Phase II (2012-onwards), WWF-P plans to extend community-based NRM interventions to four of the eleven remaining sites identified in the 50-yr vision, namely Kharo Chhann (deltaic ecosystem) in Thatta district, Manchar Lake (freshwater ecosystem) in Dadu district, Nara Wetlands Complex (desert-wetlands complex) in Khairpur and Sukkur districts, and Khibrani Forest (riverine forest) in Matiari district. As with Phase I, conservation of critical eco-systems in these sites will be conducted in collaboration not only with local communities but also Government departments, civil society organizations, academia and local government institutions. 2. Purpose of this consultancy The purpose of the present consultancy is to establish a baseline assessment of zooplankton (Limnology) in and around the four priority project sites. This baseline will determine key ecological interventions of Phase II by identifying the gaps and opportunities. 3. Terms of Reference i. Collect and review secondary data on the invertebrates of the priority sites area, with the help of available literature and local community; ii. Collect data from the field on species occurrence, abundance and diversity in the study areas; iii. Prepare a taxonomical checklist of the invertebrate groups found in the desired reservoir; iv. Study the ecology and behavior of various groups of invertebrates with special reference to crustacean fauna of the desired area; v. Assessment of impacts from environmental changes and human population pressure on economically important invertebrates and their habitats; vi. Provide photographs, where possible, of the impetrative invertebrate species collected from inside and around the priority sites; vii. Submit detailed assessment report for each priority area (excluding Khebrani Forest) Only Proposals with complete documents will be considered. 4.
